Status: offline 		Ok... I'm not 100% sure where to put this... So I'll start it over here...

I'm having a dreadful time finding a good shade of Red hair dye.  I have recently been contacted by another Lady because she liked the color of my hair in my photos.  Sadly, I can't find THAT color anymore.  Can't even remember exactly which shade it was.  I know it was a Feria Power Red that actually turned my hair some wacked out shade that I called Neon Orangutan Orange about a week before that scheduled professional photo shoot.  After a couple of washings, it turned out as you see it in my profile pic.  That color was very nice.

My favorite shade was Garnier Nutrisse #68 Mango.  FAB color!  That red was so pretty that strangers would stop me on the street to tell me how beautiful my hair was.  Naturaly - THAT color got discontinued.  I'll never figure that one out! 

Last night, trying for the same result, I used Feria Power Red #R68 Rich Auburn, True Red.  It is NOT the same as GN's #68 Mango.  That was a lighter, golden red.  This, today, is a Black Cherry red sometimes seen on Goth Girls.  Not my cup of tea.  However, I've had experiance with these Power Reds before.  I'm hoping that after a couple of washings, it will 'settle down' a bit.

Considering the fact that I've been dying my mousey brown hair Red since I was 14 years old, I've been just about every shade of red you can think of.  In fact, when I was pregnant and 'they' said that hair dye was bad for the baby, I stopped coloring my hair for over a year and it turned back to it's natural color.  I actually had good friends ask me "Why did you dye your hair brown?" 

Also considering that the 'TV Makeover' people are now saying "Red is the New Blonde", one would think that it would get easier to find a good shade of red... but it's not.  It's actually quite difficult as there are so few shades of red available... and those are frequently sold out. 

Anyone else having these problems?  Found a good answer?

Status: offline 		Loreal's Red Penny is one of the few shades I have used that does not go on darker (on me).
(I use it to fade gray)
Have you tried going to Sally's?
(They do online as well.)

RED HAIR IS DA-BOMB!

Or whatever the current word is for Hot.  Goth Black is SO Last Century!  Get with the program and let go of that nasty chalk black hair!  It looks just as bad now as it did back in the 70's when the followers of Alice Cooper and heavy metal bands started this 'dead head' look.  Try something NEW for crying out loud.  When a fad is in it's third generation, it's just not 'rebellious' anymore.

Actually, my friends with naturally red hair are now dying it back to red.  Sadly, natural reds tend to 'fade' to an odd shade of blonde as we age.  I recently ran into a girl who had the most amazing naturally red hair in high school... it had lost so much of it's once glorious color that I wanted to hog tie her and dye it myself.

As a child, my great aunt had the most amazing red hair.  I always thought it was the most beautiful hair in the world.  As soon as I was old enough for my mother to let me dye my hair, I started trying to copy Aunt Murval's henna red hair.  (Yes - old school southern ladies with odd names run in my family!) 

I have never tried Henna as I've heard it's rather difficult to deal with and you have to leave it on a long time.  I've heard of people sleeping with it in all night and washing it out in the morning.  I have A LOT of hair!  It's not just long, it's thick.  I really don't think I can deal with a process that requires as much effort as Henna.

Thanks for the link to Sally's.  Maybe I can get more information there.  I've only been to my local Sally's a couple of times, years ago.  The sales people were not very helpful and a touch rude.  I got the impression that if you are not a trained cosmetologist, you might as well stay the heck out of there because they don't deal with 'end users' and none of the products seemed to come with instructions.

It is currently dyed chocolate brown with copper streaks, with it washed out enough that the natural red is showing through enough to give it some very nice highlights. I am getting it back to red, however I am not at all a fan of my natural shade, so I will continue to dye it a different shade.

The one that I prefer is ... *goes to find the box* Schwarzkopf LIVE Brilliance, colour number 43 named Red Passion. It starts out as almost a kind of blood red and then lightens up a bit and goes ... well look at my picture over there *points to it*

Also, it would be back to more red than brown if someone *looks at angel* had helped me to dye it on Sunday like she said she would ...

Status: offline 		Natural blonde who prefers red here. When I've gone back to my natural color, I've had people ask me why I bleached out my pretty red hair. I do have a very difficult time holding the color. It only stays the vibrant color it's supposed to be for a week maybe before it starts fading. Last time I had it done professionally and it turned out beautiful. Fortunately, I live in an area where I can get a haircut and 2 colors for around 50 bucks, which less less than half of what it was when I lived in Indy. Red Rawks!!

ages and ages if seals are unbroken and there is no exposure to the light....red breaks down the most quickly I have read

My local sally's is great, so I agree, it's worth trying again. Their prices are great.



Also, in the little boxes that contain the haircolor are the directions for how much of the specific developer you are supposed to use.

I don't know of someone else already found this for you via google but it seems it is still available in Canada if this website is correct. It is kind of like drugstore.com but in Canada.

Status: offline 		I've had really good results with Preference by Loreal (cause I'm so worth it!)  I use the medium auburn, and every 3rd or 4th month, I use the dark auburn.  It gives it a nice natural-looking shading.  My hair always feels so nice and conditioned afterwards, and I get a TON of compliments all the time on the color. 

I stay away from the Feria's, and any color that has "Intense" in the name.  I don't like my hair to scream "colored!!!" lol

LMAO at "Suicide Redhead"....I'm going to start using that!
