Pittsburgh Seeks 4,000 Extra Police Officers to Help With the Group of 20 Meeting By SEAN D. HAMILL PITTSBURGH — Worried about protests that typically surround the meetings of officials from the world’s 20 biggest industrial and emerging economies, Pittsburgh has asked 4,000 officers from across the country to supplement its 900-member police force for the Group of 20 meeting here next month. /snip

Isn't this something the National Guard usually handles?

They only have 900 officers? I think Boston has about 1,600. Simlar size I assume.

I only passed thru a few times on a bus.  The downtown is pretty.     Pittsburgh is maybe 4.5 hours from here- Philly 3.5 hours.

I am thinking the protests are going to be pretty big.  The city wont make money on this.   Who knows- it could be Seattle.

81 is one road I dont care for.   Somehow there are alot of accidents there.

So you went home then.   How did that go?

Municipalities are always worried about liability and crowd control in these types of situations and frequently respond with overkill. We have had the same type of problem here with Mardi Gras celebrations in the past.

One thing is for sure. There will be no republicans on the streets causing trouble. It will be democrats and wacked out environmentalists. It will make the town hall meetings look like kinder garten..

mnottertail -> RE: Pittsburgh Seeks 4,000 Extra Police Officers to Help With the Group of 20 Meeting (8/24/2009 5:25:14 PM)

No, it will be the whacked out righty tighties oozing out from the townhall meetings.

The republicans will have to be at work that day. It is the far left loons that always disrupt these meetings. They call in sick to attend.
