Since many people in the lifestyle are into sca and ren faires I was wondering if anyone has any information on how to break into re-enacting, on the east coast in particular.

Depends on which specific portion of the east coast area (that's a lotta territory to try and cover with no information)

it also depends on whether you want information on the SCA specifically, or the RenFaire circuit specifically, or something like the Authurian Society specifically, etc....

I'm close to Phila, there is of course allot of history in PA, So I guess mid atlantic is the region. I had a friend that was into it, but it didn't happen.

PA = East Kingdom for the SCA. I'll see what I can scrounge up as far as contact info for folks out in that kingdom, and email ya on the other side....

Rhi I'm actually on the sca website as i'm responding to your posts. I truely love late victorian but medevial would be ok too.

heh..... Victorian, CivWar, and RenWar reenactment I've never been involved with. My interests in History are for Ancient & Medieval

Victorianesque re-enactment has never really taken off as a concept here in the States, except in small enclaves. I found some folks who enjoy it through a local Victorian Mystery bookstore. I'm not close enough to help you with contact info--Texas won't do you much good, and our group is almost diaphanous, it is so loose and ghostly at times, and we haven't even thought about reaching out to see if there are other groups connected to other groups.

The closest you may get is Civil War Re-enactment or Plantation Living Re-enactment. I think there are a couple of groups that may not be too far away that you could hook up with. This is the closest that I know of, and they're in Michigan--it is a pretty new area of re-enactment here, and tends to be sorely overlooked, perhaps because it is more home/social and significantly more heavily invested in manners and protocol than battle related (I've noticed that many of the successful re-enactment groups seem to thrive more around the war/battle elements than around the social elements. It seems that many of the social elements are pulled in to allow significant others to participate in the companion's current interest in wars of every shape and size).

Here we have groups of Revolutionary War re-enactments. But should be lots of Civil War near Philly.
