How'd you know I'd respond to you the way I have?  (Elizabeth, Kim Basinger)
I saw myself in you.  (John, Mickey Rourke)
--9 1/2 Weeks

So, I decided to indulge some escapism this evening by re-watching one of my favorite power-dynamic-based movies: "9 1/2 Weeks".
The quote above speaks rather well to my thoughts on the flow of energy between people and the completion and compliment a bond that is an exquisite fit creates.
We all have our own version of power dynamics and what they mean to us.
I'm introducing this as a conversation starter: does it resonate with/for you, does it seem wholly irrelevant, is the answer somewhere in between or is it something else entirely?

You know, I always hate saying I have 30 yrs of experience in BDSM because that is a misnomer.  I have done this since my first sexual experience, but the day to day has been very much like any other couple.  Romance, love, kink, getting twisted up in knots, bound up and sexually tortured for hours was just happy circumstance in my life.  It is not like 30 years was constant 365 days a week, ect.

But it has been in my life with each man who spent time with me.  When I thought this was normal stuff I never mentioned kinky play.  I am shy and it was difficult for me to discuss sex with my partners, but each partner found this in me.  So.. did I attract them to me because of something they saw in me?  Or was I only attracted to men that had some sort of sensual pull in a kinkwise direction?  I don't know.  I do think we are drawn to ourselves, people who are like us even though they may seem wildly different.  I guess it helps to know who we are.  Not sure if that make sense but it works for me.

I too am shy and find it hard to share my sexual desires. I do think we attract what we are. Even when my Daddy pushes me towards somethings they are usually things I already thought of but was just to scared or insecure to do or ask for.
O, by the way..... I also loved the movie 9 1/2 weeks. That movie made me feel very excited!! *blush*

There are certainly significant elements that Carol & I share in common, but D/s isn't one of them. Carol is pretty much sub, through and through. I'm pretty much dom. I cover more ground than she does, but honestly she comes from so far over on the sub side of the fence that I have to stretch to empathize properly.

I know Carol (and others) will respond how they do because it's my nature to be highly empathic. I take that sort of knowledge for granted... kind of like I know how fast to drive becaues there's signs all along the freeway telling me that.

Yes...I have this invisible bar code on my forehead...invisible to all that is except men who want to make me their property because they already see themselves owning me.

With hind sight I can now see that I always wanted a guy ‘bigger and stronger and meaner’ than me.  Because I wasn’t conscious, in my earlier experiences, of what exactly attracted me to a man, I would choose someone who was just a shade off the mark.  I married an abuser, and sure enough, he was bigger and meaner, but not in any kind of fun way.
If one lacks self-awareness then it is difficult if not impossible to ‘recognize’ what it is about that person that trips your trigger.  Some people get lucky early on; others, like Goldilocks in the Bear’s house, bounce around for a longer time because nothing seems to fit ‘just right’.
(and P.S.  For the record, I must admit that the deepest thought that particular movie prompted for me was ‘better check my battery supply)

I am a Pyroaqua looking for my Terraero.

Achieving Oneness.... or wholeness. This is done on a personal level and interpersonal level... right?

With a relationship it feels that there is a third party developing between us two.

When I've used logic, I usually fail at relationships. When I look for, what I call, SPARK, people say I'm too discriminating.
But I need to feel the connection and feel a spark.
It needs to be on a physical level, an intellectual level and on an emotional level.

Davan .. you are wise. Why do you live so far away?

MidMichCowboy----
I'm with you: I want that spark, I want that connection, I want to know it and feel it and taste it and roll around in it.  Good stuff!
Aaw, you flatter me.  I'm not feeling particularly wise but I thank you sincerely for the compliment.  :>

I don't mean to sound obtuse, but I'm not sure if you are asking about the quote, the movie, or the "flow of energy between people".

As for the quote - I can see myself in a lot of women (wink, wink), but a moment's further investigation on my part quickly reveals that to be a bad idea.

I haven't seen the movie (though I'd like to sometime), so I'm not sure about the context of this quote (if that's even relevant to your question.)

When I say context I mean; what is it that he's seeing in her that reminds him of himself? A compliment to his dominance? Or is he saying that he has a submissive aspect to himself that he also recognized in her?

Dunno.
