RCdc -> Dead baby awakens. (8/8/2009 4:59:30 PM)

I am not really sure how this makes me feel...

A premature baby declared dead by doctors at a hospital in Paraguay was found to be alive hours later when he was taken home for a funeral wake.
Jose Alvarenga said he had discovered his son was alive after he heard crying from the box in which he was placed.

A Zombie baby perhaps; Zombaby.

OK on reflection it's more likely the standard of Doctor was lacking perhaps.

Babies are creepy enough as it is. They smell, cry, and are ugly as sin. We don't need them waking up from the dead as well.

Isn't it amazing how perspective can change everything? i see babies as amazing, beautiful, wonderful, gorgeous, angelic, lovely scented miracles.....Perhaps it's the reality that i can't have one that makes their lives so precious to me... i guess while it would scare the hell out of me, i would still be grateful no matter how the baby came into my life.

Perspective.......

Hey, good for you. To each their own.

When I see a baby, I see a miniaturized obese bald man, and I do not find obese bald men beautiful.

Now if this thread were about a pug puppy coming back to life, then I would be all agog.

I read the story... uh uh... not buying it. An hour of resuscitation effort? by that time, monitors are on, drugs are given... and any heart beat is detected.

Infrequently there are such stories about people in a coffin or in a morgue coming back to life. I am starting to suspect that they do so due to storage conditions. In a morgue the cold might activate their metabolism. In a coffin similarly an increased carbon dioxide content might stimulate their breathing. If so, then if they had not been stored that way, they might truely have died.

There is an illness that give people the illusion of being dead. The vital signs become so slow that even machine do not detect them. And in some countries if you have enough money an spending an hour to revive someone is not unheard of tazzy.

It does happen. It truly does...

I am glad the baby is alive if the story is true...

There can't be much worse than waking up in a box, to wait to suffocate. Therefore in this country we take the blood out and put formaldehyde in. This assures they are dead. Apparently there it is different, whether for religious reasons or whatever.

If you haven't heard, the term "Saved by the the bell" used to mean something. In graves with the recently buried they would put in a hole and a string to a bell. This after a few times of exhuming coffins for whatever reasons and finding that the person was not really dead.

I guess that in practice it saved a few lives, but the fact that they do not embalm there saved a baby's life.

Now really, where should we be standing on this issue ? Where is the high ground ? At the very least the issue is perplexing. I guess it just stands to reason, trying to be right is not as easy as it is cracked up to be. But in the US that baby would be dead.

Morally intriguing to say the least.

maybe not, termyn8or.

if a baby is born dead, in a hospital, in this country, they have to have an autopsy.  and presumably the doctor in the morgue cutting into the baby would cause it to scream, or it would be noticed that baby dear is kinda WARM for a corpse, and the appropriate measures would be taken.

mama came home from nursing school telling us of a patient sent to the morgue who wasnt nearly as dead as first thought.  that was in 1980.  so stranger things have happened.

kitten, shrugging

Then perhaps it comes back to due diligence.

How many dead babies does it take to paint a house?
Depends on how hard you throw them....

According to the news report I read, the baby was 16 weeks preemie and only weighed in at 1.1lb( jives with the BBC report)
"Initially, the baby didn't move, he practically didn't have any respiratory reflexes, nor did we hear a heartbeat and, as a result, we declared a premature fetus of 24 weeks dead," Weber told Reuters Television".
nothing about trying for an hour, but... who knows.
