http://www.prisonplanet.com/cops-taser-old-man-for-sitting-in-wrong-seat-at-baseball-game.html

...Term mentioned a weapon that could make everyone in the crowd have pain or have to use the bathroom.  I wonder how far we are from that.  You may have noticed town hall protests.   Looks sort of controlled to me.  Congress is surprised by it   But with all the talk on health care reform the cap and trade has even more bad news in for all.

So- if people act up in public- how much latitude is afforded?

Granted there are alot of boorish people that are obstinate stubborn and selfish.

So when the outrage is more and more in public what do YOU do? do you join it- or do you avoid it?

If it was my seat (at a football game, not baseball....I hate baseball) and the guy refused to move, I'd say he got off light. I wouldn't need the cops.

Tasers are being used for such things far too often. I think they are now seen as a convenient alternative to traditional reasoning; which takes longer.

Considering the officers didn't have any kind of idea as to the man's medical condition i.e. whether or not he had a pacemaker or heart condition (common amongst the elderly) it could have easily proven fatal. This isn't the first case of an elderly person being attacked in such a way either.

Sooner or later someone is going to die through such triviality.

Is this going to be like the last taser post you put up, poor old lady tasered while being law abiding? Until the truth came out with video showing anything but.

Your sources are not trustworthy and you have a habit of jumping on bandwagons that support your feelings without checking out the facts.

This was a bad post.

Lets see if I can clarify.

Ok-  I talked to my brother.   In his world the economy is back to happy days are here again. When it does not work out that way- he will BE the protests.    Alot of people will be.   At some point the currency will be devalued.

So as a person- what do you DO about it?

How do you re-focus the country back to for and by the people?

If what 'the people' wants changes then doesnt society have to change with it, therefore they should never be asked to refocus just live

He was drunk and belligerent and disrupting the game for other ticketholders.  Coliseum security asked him to leave and he refused so the police were called in.  He was asked again to leave and resisted arrest.  He chose poorly.

It's a bit pathetic when a group of trained people can't remove a single 60 year old man by force without the need to rely on their trusty taser.

How did people cope with such incidents before tasers were invented?

I always sort of thought of ball games to be not very formal.   The whole point of it - it to get excited and cheer... eat, drink beer and worry about parking.

Simple, they used their batons and fists. At least this way that "single 60 year old man" you're concerned about doesn't havae broken bones and a cracked skull.

If this is how the police deal with people in the UK they themselves will be dealt with by the IPCC passing a case to the CPS where possible, I can't speak for your part of the world perhaps such violence is the only way for such folk.

When the 'folk' illicit such violence, yes.

And don't let the guy's age fool you. "Arnold" is in his 60's and can likely kick a cop's ass if he was pissed enough. The days of every 60-year-old being some frail thing are long over.

Did he illicit violence or did he just conduct a sit down protest? Is protest still allowed in the US or is it a police state where people would be moved on by force? Why not use tanks like the Chinese? Fair enough if he was violent or threatening.

Sit down protest is not an option when you're in a seat someone else paid for and the police are instructing you to relinquish it to him. Then, according to the article, he did get beligerent. Hell, I nearly beat the shit out of a guy who was in my assigned, paid-for parking space because he refused to move and was getting beligerent with me.

Like I said, the guy in the OP got off light.

There is a very simple solution. If you have pacemaker or heart condition, don't argue with guys carrying guns, handcuffs and tasers, especially when you know you're wrong. He wasn't being asked to leave a seat that he paid for and had a right to be in.

As I understand it, both of these people were approached by police after a complaint was made because they were sitting in the wrong seat.

You'll notice the people who made said complaints were not also tasered. Why? Because instead of taking someone else's seat, they took the right steps to have a squatter removed from their own.
