OK.  This was stolen from a thread, that spawned from a thread, which had a pretty good idea.  (I'm giving credit to Bounty Hunter right now.)

Everybody had fun with the grunge match idea.  It was supposed to be this idea that the proceeds were going to go to charity.  It fell through, so I'm proposing something else.

We all benefit from this free site.  How many of us have met folks that we never would have otherwise?  This is something that's been provided to us free of charge for years.  On the other thread, there was a discussion about pulling people together to watch two guys beat each other from these forums for charity.  Then, the idea came up to talk trash to other folks, and donate to charity for the right to do so.

Instead, let's make it positive.  Every time we get to meet someone from CM and it's a positive thing, let's throw a few bucks to the charity of our choice.  If we were on another site, we may be paying for the privilege to meet someone via the net anyway, so why can't we donate that amount to a good cause?

So, that's My challenge, folks.  Every time I have the opportunity to meet someone through this site, I'm going to make a donation to the National Leather Angel's Fund.  It may just be ten bucks here and ten bucks there, but as these positive experiences happen to Me, I want to make them happen for someone else.

Let Me make Myself perfectly clear.  DO NOT SEND MONEY TO ME!  Send it to NLAF, the Shriner's Hospital, Animal Rescue, or whatever charity speaks to you.

Who wants to meet the challenge with Me?

Well if you want to but count me out. You are associating charity with an event. If anyone knows I do, charity is needed when it is needed. If you need, ask. If it doesn't hurt me too much I will do it.

I would say send a few bucks to CM, but currently there is no easy way to do that. With all these members, even at five bucks a year they could probably get a small house or a big car. But when people don't ask, I rarely offer. And organized charity turns me off. I know there is someone walking around in a suit that cost more than my car. My charity is limited.

But if you got money to throw around, maybe we should talk. Fortunes are made in times like these.

That's the thing.  People are also hurting in times like these.  Why not do something good as good things are happening for us?

TN Local food banks are ASKING for donations, i am sure they are all over the country, the local Red Cross always needs blood.  I am surprised Termyn8or you don't see these places asking.  I never saw giving to charities as throwing away money.  But even if you can't give money --- a couple cans of food from the dollar store to your local food bank or blood to the red cross is another way to donate.  Even if you don't like giving to bigger charities you could offer to pay a bill for someone who you know to be on hard times, school is starting, if you know a family is on hard times you could buy school supplies for a child.  You could clean out your clothes and give old clothes to Good Will etc.  The VA Hospitals i believe also look for these types of donations.  give or mail anonymously a gift certificate to a restuarant or a food store or clothing store to someone you know you could use it.

I am just saying, there are always things you can do for people less fortunate than you are especially in these times on a more personal level than on a larger scale.  Sometimes people are too proud to ask for help so sometimes a small anonymous thing a gift certificate, paying a bill, giving blood, buying food for a food bank etc, goes a long way.

oh in case it isn't clear lol I am in.

Love the idea. I tracked down the NLAF website (first I'd heard of it). Great concept but is it still active? Everything on there refers to 2008. Is anyone holding down the fort?

I'm glad you asked, Ms Flutter.  NLAF is going strong.  The man who started up that non profit goes by KinkMasterDave and he has a profile here as well as Fet.  I've known him personally for years.  Just a few days back, he was looking for anyone needing a washer and dryer that was donated to NLAF, so I know it's still going.

I've seen the good work that this charity has done.  Helping families that have ties to WIITWD.  Many times, when the need is greater than the donations, Dave will pull money out of his own pocket, just to help people.  In 2008, NLAF 'adopted' a family for Christmas.  The donations surpassed everyone's dreams and that family was able to pass along the spirit to other families that needed help.  It was amazing to see.

Thank you for the question and I hope no one minded the shamelss plug for one of My personal favorites.

I'd have to have a rotating set of charities...

local animal no-kill shelters/rescues, AIDS research, homeless shelters, historic preservation societies and such.

of course, it's fantasy for me, since I can't even get my own bills paid half the time..LOL

GT, I know lots of folks are struggling right now.  So, maybe instead you can put the idea away for another day when times are better.  People can always donate their time, even if it's just something small.  What about an hour at your local animal shelter?  I know you'd enjoy doing something like that anyway.

I already donate to the local battered womens' shelter and 2 of the local homeless shelters on a regular basis.  Not cash, mind you - I don't typically have much Money to spare, having dad home.  But every few months, when I've got odds-n-ends left from various batchs of soap..... old stock that needs to be rotated, fragrances that were flops in the retail arena, batchs that turned out well Chemically but not Visually.... I package up several pounds worth of bars (usually a couple of paper bags worth of nothing but bars of soap), and usually a few other "goodies" for the womens' shelter ... and then take them and drop them off.

It may sound a bit odd, but it actually helps them out a lot more than most folks realize.  Cleaning supplies - both of the housekeeping variety, and the personal hygene variety - are always in short supply.  Donations like that keep them from having to spend limited funding, so it can be dedicated to other items.

FR - general

Maybe I am a bit sour on organized charity. Now that I know that United Way buys their truck drivers cigarettes I think that may have something to do with it. There is also a website out there somewhere that lists the salaries of the heads of some of these charities, and that is what I meant about wearing a suit that costs more than my car.

I have been told in person that sometimes how I put things can make me look like a monster, but my friends know better. I have to remember that this does not always come across on the printed page.

So don't kill me. On the other hand, go ahead. If you saw my bills you would put me out of my misery. (JOKING OK ?) ((I thought I had better mention that, there is no tone of voice on this keyboard ))
