Wow, that's tough Northern. Pretty much everyone I know when they join a new "community" likes to be welcomed to it... a bit of reassurance... a "hello". Genuinely - it wasn't meant to be tough.
Mainly pragmatic and part simply saying it how I see it - spending time asking whether or not it can happen detracts from actually making it happen; and I'd say a sign of maturity is just getting on with it rather than being anxious about it. I think there's a world of difference between saying "hello" and asking people whether or not things can happen for him.
A sign of maturity is that you come to realise that providing you have something to say for yourself and you have a sense of humour and you're a decent person - then things will happen for you.
As it happens - I'm not one for placing too much emphasis on strengths and weaknesses - a strength can be a weakness as per the tastes of the commentator.
I dunno - perhaps it's down to a different background - I was brought up in a working class area where nothing was free and you made things happen for yourself.
