I learn from my mistakes by realizing that I am bigger than my mistake. My favorite line at work was, "I'd rather be right at the end than at the beginning" meaning that changing my mind mid-stream to a more correct stance is a good thing.
Insofar as taking responsibility for our own transgressions, Carol and I both habitually look to ourselves first when there is an issue. Frequently Carol will have analyzed all the ways in which it was her fault. I'll have looked at all the ways it was mine. When we talk about it, we get the synthesis. Seldom and only with great hesitancy does one of us say to the other, "That was your fault." I don't think that's because we're such wonderful people, I think it's just our own natural pattern.
