Author Frank McCourt passed away yesterday. Angela's Ashes is a genuinely terrific book.

Amy Goodman is interviewing his brother on NPR right now. You can listen or read the transcripts on NPR.org.

Edited to add -

Forgot to mention the show is "Democracy Now!"

One of the best books i ever read. His other two were good, but Angela's Ashes was awesome.

I second that. One of my all time favorite books. A sad loss for sure. I wish his soul peaceful rest.

That makes me very sad to hear that he has passed. I have read thousands of books in my life, I read every day and always have - I finish about 3 books a week. People who know my reading habits are always interested in my 'favorite' book. I have replied for the last 10 years or so that the closest I have to a favorite is Angela's Ashes.

Some have said that it's a sad and depressing book. I never thought of it that way, I thought quite the opposite...

R.I.P....from another admirer of your work...Angela's Ashes is a great book and has its place amongst all the other great Irish works.

If it had not been for Teacher Man, I would not have survived my first year of teaching. Thanks Frank.

O SWEET everlasting Voices, be still;
Go to the guards of the heavenly fold
And bid them wander obeying your will,
Flame under flame, till Time be no more;
Have you not heard that our hearts are old,
That you call in birds, in wind on the hill,
In shaken boughs, in tide on the shore?
O sweet everlasting Voices, be still
.
-The Everlasting Voices ,W.B. Yeats (i figured Yeats appropriate in this case)

i read Angela's Ashes and it resonated within me, it changed in a small way how i saw the world. That is what good literature can do.  RIP to man, who because of his work, will have an everlasting voice.

Frank was a good writer, and I particularly enjoyed Teacher Man
