However, used ones, especially older ones, often have such an abysmal power consumption, that a new model using a lot less energy might be the cheaper option in the long run.

This is what I bought last year and I love it. It never condenses, never have to clean it free of ice or the coils and it's quiet.

I personally would never buy a used one because then you have no warranty and by the time you go through one after another you could have saved up to buy a brand new one...that would be covered by warranty.

Don't waste your money on used. Get a Sears card or shell out the cash for new.

Dude,

The first thing is to eat the ice cream.  Then grill all the meats and have a party.  Let someone else bring the beer!

Any thoughts on the subject??

Nope. I haven't had a refridgerator for 28 years now - ever since I moved out of my parents house.

I lived a year without one. Had two little ones and almost never ate out. Didn't have a regular stove with oven either. Where there's a will, there's a way

Simply refuse to buy or use one.

Most people can do without. They only are necessary for some retail stores, such as groceries and supermarkets. When I go for a vaccination, I ask the pharmacy to keep the vaccin in their refrigerator until the doctor is willing to vaccinate me.

I got two words for you - buy used. I was never sorry I did.

Other than that, consider getting someone to fix the one you have. If you can get someone competent out there, like thirty to fifty for the call, they might just find that all you need is a new defrost timer. Less money and no moving. (it does sound like a defrost timer to me)

I always try to fix something rather than replace it, but that's just me. When I do buy used I prefer it to be from a private owner and I like to see just what kind of environment the item has been in.

OK- no progress on this yet.

Frigidaire
4.4 Cu. Ft. Compact Refrigerator (Color: Black)
-------------------------  I think this is the one I own.   I looked around- and this configuration is -- ideal-  being that the unit is small- I could bring it in to a shop.   It might be worth fixing.   Many compact fridges- do not have decent freazer space.  I buy meat for 3-4 days and the big packs of meat are a better price.  I dont really keep condiments- or soda in the fridge- but produce- eggs- milk- a thing a brocholli takes up space....  I make up salads....

http://www.partselect.com/AppliancePartList.aspx?Brand=Frigidaire&Appliance=Refrigerator&ModelNum=&Type=Thermostat%20-%20Humidistat%20-%20Sensor&MinSize=U&MaxSize=U&Electrical=U&Metal=U&Plastic=U&OneColor=U&PageSize=15&FirstPart=1   --this board- can give me an idea as to price...

--to replace this- it would cost the best part of $400- and money is tight right now...

Kenmore White 3.9 cu. ft. Compact Refrigerator   --this one is $105.25-  and would be sort of ok-  but again the freezer is not big and the total space is not impression....

Kenmore 9.5 cu. ft. Refrigerator..  $340 -  uses only 325 kwt a year--  but still abit more then my budget.  argh.

In other news- I bought a fridge and went to Aldis.  It is nice to have food around.

I am plotting a September budget.   These days it is not fun as I cut things to the bone...

Them horizontal fridges are far superior for storing dead bodies; with them upright ones there is the chance the body could fall out and that would be awkward if that were to happen in the middle of a social gathering.

Refer to films (various).

In fact who in their right mind would get a horizontal fridge if they didn't want to store a dead body, just imagine if you have to get something and it's at the bottom not on convenient shelves? It's just lucky all them gangsters just happen to have bought the fridge that in any other situation would be a nightmare to get the fishfingers out of if stuck at the bottom under the frozen peas and chicken corpses.
