I adore hats---does Shakti wear the lavender one ever, Aidan?---but hats and modern automobiles are not always friends. They get in the way when driving, smash a person's hair, and fly off inconveniently. I have a large collection of vintage cocktail-type ones, but my Big Giant Head makes most hats too small! I had a grand fedora in a rosy taupe colour, wore it for years...

FR, after continuing read thru Peon: Nope, tho' I put faux flowers on the straw hats occasionally . ... . I have this adorable straw sorta-bowler-shaped hat that makes me feel like a character from a Victorian / Edwardian children's book, however . . . . . Dreamer & GT: Yep, I like guys in hats, that's sexy. Especially fedoras, but if the guy has the panache to wear a hat he probably looks good in most . . . . & LadyHib, I think you hit on the big reason hats have gone away -- zee personal automobile is kinda incompatible with wearing hats, in addition to removing some of the necessity of why hats were worn . .. . . I didn't really get into wearing hats regularly until I got rid of the car in '96; it slowly became obvious that they would be very helpful as I worked out my new way of living . . .. . I've liked hats since childhood, but it was the spending significant amounts of time wandering about in the strong sun that caused me to appreciate the lowly straw sunhat & it went from there . . . . ..

I look like a doofus in hats, but I do wear them when I am working outside in the sun. Nothing fashionable about it, just sun protection.

I love hats! Don't wear them all the time... but I do like them. Hubby has a serious 'thing' for women in top hats. I've got a FAB hat that I made with three long pheasant feathers extending at least 2 feet behind my head. One of my friends used to love to watch me wearing that hat in public. Unsuspecting people would get hit in the face when I turned my head if they stood to close to me. He would stand just out of range and laugh his head off. ---Ok. I wear hats sometimes, especially when it's hot outside and I'm wearing a cute sundress and don't want everything to see everything through the orange tint of my sunglasses. My favorite hat is a straw hat with a smart navy bow. Most hats look ridiculous on me (I don't have the right shaped head!) but every now and then I find one that is perfect. I wore hats to church when I was little and loved prancing around in them. Later in college my best friend and I decided we would wear hats whenever it pleased us to do so. We'd wear them to class and all the old professors loved it. The guys liked it too. The girls, however, just glared at us and wished we'd roll over and die.

The funny part about the photo was that I was dragging this corpse through the cemetery during a photo shoot for a calendar that was never made. I was to be "Miss October". My photographer was trying to get me to stop laughing and scowl. He said "Pretend that guy just insulted your Goddess." I growled at him that "I AM the ghoddess." He was snapping away. I belong to a Mad Tea club that requires members to "own at least one spiffy hat" and wear it to meetings. I own five.

I personally don't like to cover up my head. I don't even wear a cap in winter. It's just not my style, but I must admit, that hats can look really great on someone elses' head. So, Ladies who likes hats, go fot it [;)]!! Oh, and by the way...nice picture, LadyConstanze.
