I seem to remember hearing about some scam involving getting yahoo account handles. I ask this because yet ANOTHER "women" (suspected spammer) wrote to me on here immediately requesting my yahoo handle. What is the deal with that? (Or am I wrong?)

Sounds like a lure to have you go to a pay for porn site! Get those myself and just delete, why should I have to pay to browse a porn site when I can fully access hundreds for free!!!

It may just be that the woman doesn't want to communicate through this site, which is really quite inconvenient if you're not on here all the time.

She might not want to have to come on this site to send a message to you or to read one from you.

However, online protocol--such as it is--seems to require at least a few messages through this site before requesting a Yahoo or other private e-mail address, so if the request actually was "immediate," perhaps you should politely decline to provide your e-mail address, for now, until you're comfortable that the person is legitimate.

I haven't heard of any such scam, though.

They're usually spammers. They want your yahoo info so they can get your personal info msging you with a link for you to click on.

Personally I just delete any kind of emails like that.

I think there was something specific to yahoo though; they NEVER ask for aim handles or msn.

Most scammers use YIM because it is installed on the computers in the internet cafes.

ETA- That said, they can and will add your email address to their spam lists, which are often given away or sold to other scammers. Giving out your RL email to someone you haven't at least corresponded with for a little while is just asking to be bombed with scam come-on and spam email. If in doubt, create a new yahoo ID and use that during the beginning stages.

Yahoo is easier for scammers worldwide to use. It's more vulnerable to attacks but AIM and MSN have been used as well. It's just not as common.

I get LOTS of short emails, from new accounts, wanting to "chat" on yahoo. It's an immediate delete.

Anyone who sends a yahoo address in the first email is deleted, blocked, and depending on the content, reported as spam.

Specially those that start with "Master"
