I've found that I tend to curse a little bit, then I cry, and once I'm at the crying point, if the pain continues, my brain will separate from my body, so to speak, and as someone else said, there's a distance, and I find myself thinking, "I can feel the pain, but it doesn't hurt the same way." And, I try to analyze what I am feeling instead. I have to say, though, that the crying definitely helps. It seems to release enough stress that I can continue.
