Sure, keep blaming guns rather than people who can pick up a rock and throw it.

Indeed. I had a gun for about a decade - no one got hurt, still less killed.

But then I likely have a well developed brain that inhibits me from wild acts of violence as a response to life (see my thread).

The issue is not that guns are dangerous - of course they are - the issue is who gets to have one.

I am not anti-gun. I live in Texas and could get kicked out I think if I were.

But the fact is as flawed human beings we can screw up in big ways. Having such destructive things like guns does make mistakes, sins and over reactions have dire consequences and they end up being used in ways that are never the intention people who have them state.

The article you referenced it is appearing as of now a murder suicide by his girlfriend. The odds are she did not plan this and if she had not had easy access to a gun they would both probably be alive today.

The positive reasons for gun ownership are all fine and good but that does not make the reasons why guns can be bad all invalid. Pro gun people would get more credibility if they could admit this. There is never a way to just have the good and not the bad in things. It is too simplitic of an answer to this debate by thinking we can try to make sure guns are only in the hands of good people. All people are flawed and many good people in bad situations can do truly horrible things. We have to admit and accept the good comes with the bad on what ever side you choose to be on.

In England we don't have guns and as a result gun crime is considerably lower.... we just stab and bludgeon each other instead. =)

ienigma777 -> RE: It was all the Guns fault (7/6/2009 8:49:44 AM)

Come ON......Every one knows 'Guns Kill People'......how else can the populace be disarmed. People don't kill people...Guns do.

Just you wait, when the guns are gone...then we will have peace and tranquilty.

Now, you people should know, that just before WW2, Germany enacted the toughest gun laws ever in a cilvilized contry, stating that through the passage of these gun laws, the people will be safe. So...look what happened.

Just look a  more recent event, the rigged election in Iran. Maybe some of those folks being killed in the streets should have been armed. They might even be a free society ?

Irishknight -> RE: It was all the Guns fault (7/6/2009 5:59:25 PM)

I am always amazed that it is the fault of the gun and not the shooter.  If one is enraged enough to kill someone, absence of a will not stop him/her.  People were knifed for centuries before guns and they were clubbed with sticks and rocks before that.  A screwdriver, a wrench, a hammer, or even a paperback book can be used to kill someone so lets label those as evil too and ban them.
Or here's a crazy idea... we teach people right from wrong and remove those who are unable to tell the difference.  "Guns don't kill people.  Husbands who come home early do."

And yeah, unless you bludgeon someone to death with it, guns don't kill people.  People kill people.  Some with guns; others with knives.  And yet others with "other" methods.

This one has been under surveillance for quite some time:  http://www.assaultweaponwatch.com/

The valid studies all show that it isn't the gun -- it is the person.  Guns just provide one way to kill someone.  And, as Irishknight points out, people have been killing people for centuries with non-gun devices.

But who isn't surprised that the author went straight to the "gun" as the problem, not the relationship.....

The 10 day deer hunt in Wisconsin goes without incedent year after year and more that 600,000 licenses are issued every year. There are usually 2 to 5 deaths every year due to unsafe hunting and heart attacks. People kill..not guns.

So had did they get rid of the Shah ?  Clue for the day, it wasnt with guns, compared to most revolutions the one in 1979 was fairly peaceful.

And the Federal law that says you must be 21 to purchase a handgun or handgun ammunition.   Wow, that law really prevented this tragedy....

Just saw the table was hosed above...sorry about that
