Status: offline 		Thats  ...the thing.  The place wasn't really dangerous.   Not Like Philly or Baltimore.   On a google I don't see any other city....  The metro is per haps 1 million.  Any time I have had to go down there- I did not see alarming things.  For a city of the same size it is average.

Driving is tight on Front then the one way streets but 2nd and 3rd not overly dangerous.

Note that the sprawal goes S, E and W, but not north.  ( I am north of there)   York had some trouble- but calling for martial law?  I don't know if people fully realize what that IS.

The government is not the anwswer to every problem.   Quite the oppisite.

a long list of comments- many are local to the area.

One- that martial law is a last resort--


Here is one comment :

..et me continue where jetsman above left off. Martial Law means the complete suspension of the Bill of Rights, by a military force. That means no habeas corpus, no 4th amendment, or 2nd amendment. The military could conduct house to house searches. Arrest and hold people without charges until the state of Martial Law is lifted. Use deadly force with little provocation. Shutdown any and all civil communication if necessary. No cell phones and such. Stop, search, and detain anyone without probable cause. If the NAACP believes that this needed to control violence in the community, it would indicate to me that their organization has failed in their principal mission.  /snip

Someone else said that some dude it trying to make a name for himself.
And reading the posts- there are pockets of trouble area.    


The thing to ponder is- we are early into the economic collapse and to jump for martial law - is hard to consider.  The collapse - the bad part of it does not start for at least 1 more year.  With the effects in 3 years- of 1940s type of living conditions.

Other cities have problems- and ...how are they responding to it?


So- per haps the call for suspension of the constitution, ie  martial law, was grandstanding.

I thought the comments would be alot more juvenile then the ones shown on the link.    Harrisburg tho- is surrounded by some very red necked counties.... so- maybe the thinking is that Obama can fix everything.     ...my thoughts on Obama-  George Bushes 3rd term.

Status: offline 		I have to agree with Heretic.  Taking the civil liberties away from people is not such a far stretch for this organization.  They generally don't try to promote equal rights as they claim but demand privileged status over those not of their ethnicity of choice.  I think they lost their way a very long time ago.

Status: offline 		...thinking on this.     sloppy reporting.  Lets delete the group that has called for this- pencil in AARP.

But lets suppose there is an extraordinary reason for martial law.     Pennlive was short on details... nor did it link to "for more".   The stake holders of the community have the most to lose.  The media that put this out- sloppy journalism.

That sort of brings us to TV.  "un-named sources",  "white house insiders", "pundits";  sloppy journalism.   Worse then sloppy.

So- as a citizen, you know, the reporter who wrote this should be called on sloppy journalism.

The idea is for a 30 fay period.  Note that there is NO PLAN for what to do to ensure that the community is safe after the 30 days is up.

I get the feeling that the NAACP is not serious but is using the concept of martial law to get headlines.

Status: offline 		Ok- but A 501c, I really dont know much about the NAACP, so I don't have an opinion on it... but usually a committee decides on any public statement put out.  Or at least another person.   When I worked at a non profit- I had to run everything thru 1 or more people. 

It was a pain in the butt- as numerous edits were ALWAYS needed.     A simple newsletter was pretty hard to crank out- as it always would upset someone.    An example- we had a drawing for a prize.  We could not let on that such was gambling.   Tho in the end- that is exactly what it was.
