quote:
ORIGINAL: pdv99 Why bother with analogies which can be misleading? Why not just say what you mean, then nobody gets confused. If this was advice about the dangers of play in forests, fine. But we don't have lethal predators in the woods in the UK. If it was advice about how to deal with certain types of people, spell it out! Sometimes analogies that work in one context can be worse than unhelpful in another. You could read this as advice to girls....don't go out wearing that short skirt or you'll deserve to get raped..... People aren't wild animals - they are social ones. They are capable of a much wider range of responses, for better or worse. I concur. I clicked on this thread thinking about people who go into the woods / parks /etc. to do what they do, so to speak, and then I began to think on which animals tend to roam and hunt in packs. The context of the quote leads one to believe these are some type of invincible, vast, ravenous creatures, as for shooting one, my first thought of defense in such a situation where I was confronted with animals that didn't run from whomever I was with, or me alone, was to simply fire a shot in the air, so to speak. Assuming you're not using an airsoft pistol, and say, perhaps a .45, the sound--in my imagination--would send any pack of sorts off quickly...
