Basically this guy tricks the bugs to nest in a hole he makes-then dumps motor oil on the water at the right time. He claims his whole farm is bug free.  (mosquito)

Keep in mind that they are alot worse in the boonies- as city services like spraying doesn't happen.

My question is- does this work?    What I mean is-it doesn't sound too good to dump motor oil on farmland.... I suppose they would use alot of oil for implements.

IS this dudes theory for real?

I don't know, but it seems to make sense to me. It could work.

Does it work? You mean for controlling mosquitoes, or for polluting the groundwater and poisoning his own children and all of his neighbors? The answer would be "yes" to both questions.

Guy's a fucking moron. I hope he misses one and it gives him West Nile virus.

IN Red Neck Alberta( home of huge Ram trucks with 4ft tires)
where I am from originally folks did not change the oil in  cars and thus just smoked them out where ever they went..
we referred to these  cars as mosquitoe killers..

as well these same folks left out beer..good beer!!
in hub caps to attract slugs from the gardenn
and that did work..

It does sound somewhat like it might work, but as has been pointed out, the EPA would be all over it here in the states. The fact that he used kilometers instead of miles makes me think he is in not in the USA. A person might substitute some metal 55 gallon drums instead of holes in the ground. The part I can't quite picture as working, though, is that the water would evaporate, but the oil would not, so there should be a perpetual sheen on oil on top of the water, and I don't think mosquitos would lay their eggs in a place where there was already oil. I'm definitely not an expert so I could be wrong

You can buy environmentally safe mosquito dunks to put in standing water. But used motor oil is a bad idea. Food oils would work just as well and be a lot safer.

Vegetable oil works just fine.  And so do the mosquito dunks (http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=92460-1643-MODU1&lpage=none) for those that have no idea what they are.

Motor oil not recommended if you don't want to live in a hazardous waste site....

Kinda sorta is.......to the tenth degree. You might be a redneck if.....you go to the doctor because you got poisoned by the motor oil you put in your well to kill the mozzies.
