MsBlackheart -> RE: Ideas to get out of house and make local friends? (6/14/2009 6:57:56 AM)

I read your profile and the Meetup.com site is great for finding other Libertarians and off-grid people (Jay Shafer/Andrew Morrison fan, here). There is also a lot of activity in local GOP groups as Libs work to take over the leadership positions there. You know pretty much in advance how big the gathering will be and can pick and choose. I am not much for crowds of people, often eschewing people altogether, but I can't live without a few that I truly love. I met my best friend at a munch a million years ago. I've found the best times for making friends is after things have officially ended, and people are broken off into little groups of conversations. You can seek out the person who said something that made you nod your head vigorously or feel that warmth of affinity and have a few private moments of conversation without a whole table of people turning to look at you. You come off as a very interesting, multi-faceted person who would be fascinating to know and spend time with, so I doubt you'll have problems once you're surrounded by like-minded, equally passionate people.
