I actually heard this on NPR. Very awesome!! You'd think they were out for a stroll, almost. Professional to the max!

next to destroying public education - dumping older and highly experienced workers has really pushing this country down the toilet.

What's really frightening there is the idiot in traffic control at LaGuardia who doesn't know what flight he's talking to and doesn't listen when told they're going into the Hudson.

Celeste.. I'm not so sure that it's he didnt know which flight he was talking to as it was he couldn't quite take in that Skully was going to actually attempt the landing in the river,... kinda.. "you're gonna do WHAT?... are you outta your head? I musta heard wrong"  thing...

@ Celeste, he knew who he was talking to and he was giving different landing options.. he was offering an emergency visual approach in reference to the diversion into Newark.
Newark is busy airspace as well so he was having to do different coordination in the event of that emergency.

My thought was the traffic controller was in a state of disbelief. It was definitely Sullenburger who was in charge...

More or less the controller had an 'oh-shit' moment but again seeking multiple options and coordinating for an emergency landing is far from easy.

lol

I didn't hear that at all. We must have linked to different transcripts.

i doubt it. I had Celestes impression at first also. I think what we all want to hear is a decisive take charge air traffic controller. We need to know that there is a capable person in the tower, as nearly all of us fly.
I am sure the man was capable, but he was blindsided and it showed

What gets me is how the guy at air traffic control doesn't seem to get that, even after "Skiles (15:30:03): Two hundred fifty feet in the air.", he still thinks they can make a runway anywhere...  It's a cute idea but it's just NOT going to happen. >.<

All told though, "awesome" doesn't even begin to describe the job done by the pilot and co-pilot.

I remember watching it on TV, was in NYC at the time so was all over the local news.  Not only was the landing incredible.  But after he landed it him and his staff had everyone out of the the interior of the airplane in less than a minute.

I remember that day was frigid cold.

Him landing in the Hudson was a stroke of genius as the ferries were close by and were able to get people of the wings faster. Plus he managed not to hit any of the river traffic.

I still marvel on his skill  landing it on water, safely and above water and the speed of which passengers were taken out of the interior.
