MsFlutter -> Law Enforcement Folks in WIITWD (6/8/2009 10:50:18 AM)

(wasnt able to find anything when I used the search feature and several different search strings.)

I'm encountering a lot of law enforcement folks recently (county to federal and up into the alphabet agencies).

rhetorical question: what does one do with them? [sm=confused.gif]

I would know WHAT to do with them - but how does one talk to the PERSON while vetting the OCCUPATION? I'd be torn between what the human wants and what the officer frowns on. Yes - you're right. It *is* called Cover Your 8ss'

Would any law enforcement person be amazed by a request that they swear anything they experience is purely for their personal pleasure and not part of an official proceeding?  Yes - that's reaching. But.. is it really?

Yes- there's a little risk in everything. At some point, it goes past the 'little bit of risk' marker right into "your friends are REALLY gonna hate that kind of predictament play!!"  I'm also sure the proprietors of the local dungeons would do many awful things to me ~ right before dis-inviting me from membership for failing to vet a guest.

So.. back to the original question --> what does one do with them (and how does one do it?).

Help?

I've had several good friends who were in law enforcement and who were also involved in BDSM and/or authority-transfer relationships. It's not any different than anyone else in any other job -- you connect and you take your chances. It helps if the person has been involved in the community for a while, if you're a newcomer and worried about getting caught out somehow. Most of the folks I know who work in law enforcement have taken on the often mountainous task of instructing their co-workers about getting 'beyond the myths' when it comes to BDSM and authority-transfer, and were really dedicated to the local community. It wouldn't have been the same without them.

While I suspect that a few of the folks I know would maybe raise an eyebrow at being asked to assure someone that they were only there to enjoy/participate and not as part of any official or unofficial investigation, most of them would chuckle and offer that reassurance. If it were me, and I worried about it, yeah, I'd ask the question. Whatever it takes to feel safe in your environment. Just understand that, if it -is- about prosecuting, that agreement not to use the information to develop a case would be irrelevant, essentially, if someone were caught in criminal activities.

I made a rule a long, long time ago... I don't do cops!  I had my reasons and it wasn't because of any criminal element I was a part of.  I broke my rule once because he was an ex cop.... never again!  I have worked with the police... I knew many... but few would I ever have a personal relationship with.

I just won't go there! lol

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Law Enforcement Folks in WIITWD (6/8/2009 1:32:44 PM)

There are folks here on the boards in various areas of law enforcement, homeland security, that kind of thing.  I say good for them---and I would tread very very carefully before getting involved with one.  Maybe wait until he was retired or something!

SmokingGun82 -> RE: Law Enforcement Folks in WIITWD (6/8/2009 1:41:20 PM)

I wouldn't get involved with a cop- personal preference. I've had friends/semi-friends/acquaintances  that were on the job, and some of them were even decent people... but I have a prejudice against cops. Mainly because there's never been a time in my life when I've said/thought "I'm sure glad the cops are here!"

They're a necessary evil, but that doesn't mean I have to socialize with them.

And remember... they can say they're not collecting information, or they can sign something... if laws are being broken, they're obligated to report it.

KneelforAnne -> RE: Law Enforcement Folks in WIITWD (6/8/2009 1:50:30 PM)

I have to say that I find that sort of profession, in general, extremely sexy. It isn’t just about the uniform, but more of the mindset that goes with the (sort of?) “protectionist” career. Same with doctors.

I understand where the hesitation to play with one comes in…but really… if you’re not doing anything illegal, then what does it matter if he is a cop or a lawyer or a rodeo clown? If whatever you do is illegal, then it's still illegal if he is a cop, lawyer or rodeo clown.

Actually, come to think of it... you may do better doing illegal things with cops (if you're into that) cause they rarely seem to get tickets for anything. LOL

You’ve met them, and they want the same thing you do, right? If we get down to the nitty-gritty, anyone (at any time) can go back on their word and cause legal issues.

Isn’t it just a risk we take?

“what does one do with them (and how does one do it?)” I say whatever you both consent to.

P.S. If you’re terribly worried about it, even after spending lots of time together and getting to know one another--then perhaps it isn’t a good idea to play. I’m a great believer in “gut feelings” and if it doesn’t feel right for some reason, don’t go for it--even if you can’t put your finger on why.

I come from a pretty serious "we don't dial 911" culture myself, and have to agree with you.  I've never gotten warm fuzzies when uniforms arrived on the scene.
In my mind, and in most reality, they are cops first, and your friend/nieghbor/buddy later.

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Law Enforcement Folks in WIITWD (6/8/2009 1:53:27 PM)

In Michigan, you cannot "consent" to anything that we do.  A police officer can sign a club's "waiver" form, play, and bust them;  hire an escort, fuck her, and THEN arrest her.   It's quicksand.  Firefighters, now... [:D]

Having met my share of self important jerks that were also in law enforcement, I can understand where this sentiment is coming from....

However, I feel the need to point out that they are the first people to get called when there is a problem. Personally, I think it is a bit hypocritical for people (not you specifically SG82, but people in general) to bash cops and then call them for help when there is a wreck, a break in, robbery or ___ (fill in the blank).

ShaharThorne -> RE: Law Enforcement Folks in WIITWD (6/8/2009 1:59:14 PM)

Firefighters and EMTs are the best for WIITWD...EMTs for needle play, firefighters for breathplay...

I miss my firefighter! [sm=river.gif]

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Law Enforcement Folks in WIITWD (6/8/2009 1:59:17 PM)

Police reports are required for most insurance claims... [&:]  I must say though, the deputy that came to the house the night my grandmother died was fantastic.

DesFIP -> RE: Law Enforcement Folks in WIITWD (6/8/2009 2:02:51 PM)

Medical personnel are also obligated to report abuse cases. But nobody feels afraid of playing with them.
Shouldn't you just get to know them like people first, if they just want to skip to heavy scening, and not date, then that  might be a cause for worry. But not many  cops are going to spend six weeks dating, going to the movies, hoping to catch a small potato bdsm player and get into entrapment issues. "Officer Jones, did you ever tell Ms/Mr Smith to stop?" "No Sir"  "Well then officer, if you consented upfront and never said otherwise, how was Ms/Mr Smith to know you changed your mind".

It's not like any sensible person is going to take a craigslist ad for an unknown rapist seriously.

volshebnik01 -> RE: Law Enforcement Folks in WIITWD (6/8/2009 3:00:34 PM)

I agree, I would not get involved with someone from LE. As was already mentioned, they are sworn to do the job 24/7. This can be a big problem even if you never do anything wrong. I am thinking of Homeland Security's report on ‘Rightwing Extremism’ that was released despite concerns it was seriously flawed. The story was reported in April 2009 by By Eileen Sullivan, Associated Press. The reason it was flawed-- it listed veterans returning home from the war.

One of the few times I'm ok with being a hypocrite... I'm happy for cops to prevent others from killing me or stealing from me, but have no interest in them giving me a ticket or other hassles. Alas, that's the necessary evil part.

DavanKael -> RE: Law Enforcement Folks in WIITWD (6/8/2009 4:28:06 PM)

I grew up around law enforcement, I understand the personality types that tend to go into those professions.  While it's a sweeping generalization, it's one I'm comfy making: no, no cops relationally speaking for this camper.

Ditto, and it has nothing to do with fear of legal action. I sometimes wonder if we'd be better off with no police in this country given the things that our police actually do. Getting pulled over and cuffed over the hood of my car for "driving while young" was an eye opener for me. Turns out my crime was being too young to own such a nice new car and it was too simple to ask for the registration. And here I am one of the privileged elite in our country.... white, upper middle class, etc. Yee gods what it must be like for minorities... *shudders*.

Simply ask them if they are absolutely certain they want to jeopardize their clearances, present and future, and ask yourself if it is worth going through one of "those" investigations. Most of the agencies continue to be on a semi-war footing, with the resultant restrictions and increased supervision. You're local, I am not telling you anything you didn't already know.

AlexandraLynch -> RE: Law Enforcement Folks in WIITWD (6/8/2009 5:17:54 PM)

I personally wouldn't be interested in the personality type that tends to become LE. There are a few decent ones, but I've seen a worrying amount of shaven-head, hyper-machoism in the cops around here that quite frankly does not make me (a law abiding citizen apart from WIITWD) feel very comfortable with them. At most, one of those fellows is going to be a "do me" sub, and I don't want one of those.

Missokyst -> RE: Law Enforcement Folks in WIITWD (6/8/2009 5:41:56 PM)

Well shoot.  Two of my of my former dominants were in law enforcement and another was an attorney.  What do you do with them?  I played.  I laughed.  I was tortured, shackled, paddled, .. even pulled over by close friends.  What makes them any different from the rest of us?  Unless you are asking for them to pay you, I think they are pretty much going to follow the rules of discretion.
And, they have cool toys.
BTW.... if you have a few extras send some to northern CA.  I could use man in boots and dark glasses.
