There is one big problem with light rail. It never makes enough money to pay for itself. It always ends up costing taxpayers millions to subsidise a venture that never has the riders to support it..

there's more than one problem with rail: from what I read about the proposed 'light rail' system for Austin, TX the damn thing will create more pollution than all the cars it *might* (under good assumptions) take off the roads; furthermore, the author calculated the cost per person on the train, and discovered that they could buy every one of them a car for LESS than the money being spent to create and operate the rail system. It's total insanity from every point of view.
