Any other Ice Road Truckers fans here?

Anybody else glad that we don't have to put up with wussy Drew's whining this season?

Anybody else falling in love with Lisa like I am?

Yup.  Hugh is back as well.  So far, though, they have been spending their time proving to American authorities that they can handle Alaska's roads by taking driving tests and pissing in cups.  It will be interesting to see how they do because - despite their experience - that road looks way more scary than the ones their used to.

I have seen a few of the episodes. I have been debating with a friend whether or not to try it out later on before I retire. Very dangerous runs but the job is dangerous anyway. Would be one hell of a story.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. The first season was about hauling equipment and supplies from Yellowknife to Diamond mines further north. The only time to do this was in the winter when the lakes froze over and the truckers could then drive across them. Certainly there is a science behind it all (so many inches of ice means it can suport so much weight) but accidents can happen like flips and - yup - breaking through a thin patch. Also, imagine the problems you have if you're a hundred miles from anybody and the heater in your truck conks out or an artic storm causes whiteout conditions.

The second season went even further north where drivers had to drive on a frozen river and over artic ice.

This season there are less lakes (but still artic ice to drive over) but ice is still driven on because normal pavement can't hold up to the climate. Also, this season, the hills are a lot steeper. You catch a glimpse of one - called the "roller coaster" - in the video I linked. I get white nuckles just looking at it.

Yeah, I'd love to have her warm my bed on a cold winter night.

I caught that show yesterday on the TV out in my shop, and I had to stop what I was doing several times to see what they were discussing. The roller coaster looked just killer deadly.

Man... I have no desire, I don't care what it pays. It's too  cold up there, and those trucks seem to have a mind all their own on that ice sometimes. I've driven on ice every winter since I was a kid in cars, and I've always enjoyed getting loose, breaking traction and having some fun on wintry roads. But those trucks on those roads didn't look like any kind of fun to me!

I can't stand that show.  It doesn't belong on the History Channel, which used to have exceptionally good programming.  Now they have succumbed to reality show craze.  I just don't see what a show about truckers has to do with history.

Having lived all of my life in Western New York, I've had my share of fun (not always intentional ) on icy roads.  Despite being experienced in winter driving, you couldn't pay me enough to drive that roller coaster road.

Ya know, I can't really disagree.  They're going where the ratings are and from a business point of view you can't really blame them, though.  I also have never cared for so called reality shows like survivor but I have to admit, I like this show.  I think there's just something about these hard working folk with an independent spirit and balls of steel (including Lisa ) that just appeals to me.
