Knowing what you know now, if you could go back in time to give yourself one piece of advice when you turned 21, what would it be?

Do what your doctor suggests you do, it isn't bad advice.

GreedyTop -> RE: knowing what you know now.. (6/2/2009 8:01:48 AM)

As trite as this may sound, "Believe in yourself."  There are lots of people in the world that will try to convince you otherwise, but you need to know your own mind and know your own strengths.  Know them and own them.  After all, you are stronger than you think that you are.

it was already too late by the time i was 21, i was already married to him....but if i could do it when i was 19, i'd tell myself NOT to quit college for a man.

You too?  Perhaps man/husband stupidity at 19 is the new black.

CarrieO -> RE: knowing what you know now.. (6/2/2009 8:11:19 AM)

Simple...."Go to college, the world will still be there when you're done and you can travel all you want but, when you get back, you'll have a chance at a better job/career."

impishlilhellcat -> RE: knowing what you know now.. (6/2/2009 8:15:32 AM)

Don't move to OK

Rainfire -> RE: knowing what you know now.. (6/2/2009 8:18:43 AM)

[8|]  Can it be 18? And "don't be a dumbass - take your dad's offer to go to Stanford and shut the fuck up about not feeling like going to college just yet."  I can't even imagine where I'd be if I'd listened to my dad then. [&o]

MoGa -> RE: knowing what you know now.. (6/2/2009 8:31:05 AM)

Good question!

In answer, I would not give myself any advice. I am who I am today, because of who I was and what I did yesterday. If I went back and gave myself advice, then it would change who and what I have become.

With that said..

I would go back and give the man who killed my sister advice.

"Do not drink and drive, you selfish piece of shit. You are about to kill someone who has two children and a family who loves and needs her. Call a fuckin' cab."

That is the one piece of advice I would give out. And might I add, that it is still the most excellent advice anyone drinking and thinkin' about driving could ever get.

Fitznicely -> RE: knowing what you know now.. (6/2/2009 8:34:28 AM)

Heh...I have options:

Back to age 15: "It's not your kid"
Age 19: "You're not THAT desperate!"
Age 21: "Nobody likes her, you're holding on for nothing, Women do actually like you."

LadyHibiscus -> RE: knowing what you know now.. (6/2/2009 9:05:13 AM)

IMP!!!!

Dang.  I was having a pretty good time when I was 21, it didn't start going to shit until later...  I dunno.  Tell myself to take more risks, probably.  Though if I had done things differently, I would have had an entirely different life right now.

beargonewild -> RE: knowing what you know now.. (6/2/2009 9:22:29 AM)

Just one piece of advice: Go ahead and indulge in those secret desires, don't wait another 15- 20 tears!

sugargirlxxx -> RE: knowing what you know now.. (6/2/2009 10:25:39 AM)

purepleasure -> RE: knowing what you know now.. (6/2/2009 3:55:03 PM)

I'd tell myself to forgive, and that the best revenge is a happy life.

I wasted too many years harboring rage and fear.

Asherdelampyr -> RE: knowing what you know now.. (6/2/2009 3:56:16 PM)

I went To Wendover on my 21st birthday, so I think it would have been
Go with someone else, and invite others to come too

Absolutely - resentment is like drinking poison while hoping someone else dies.

It's a hard lesson to learn and I don't know of anyone who hasn't had to learn the hard way in this respect.
