I used to be part of a LGBT group, and the feeling was that T was just tacked on to the end because the poor little people didnt have anywhere else to go.
See I think the problem comes largely from confusion over it all, many T's are straight and I almost think that the more it is linked with the LGB community the worse that it will be in terms of stereotypes.
There is a huge public ignorance about transgender/crossdressing and all the other terms that are lumped together.
