Hehe, you know where my head is at when the first thing I think about is how it applies to sex. To me a 'service top' is someone who is 'topping' (I hate this term, but I'll use it for purposes of this discussion) but doesn't like it for the activity. Same with a 'service bottom' too, just with 'bottoming' instead of 'topping,' obviously. When I 'top' it's usually for (one of or both) two reasons: 1. I'm sadistic. I like making people squeal, scream, and I like hitting people. The whole pain thing is fascinating, especially with those who don't (natively) experience pain as pleasure... though I'm not amazingly hardcore about it. I like to play within pain-levels, usually, just because I don't top people all the time. 2. I like making other people feel good. This makes working with masochists or fellow algolagniacs fun, too. In the first I wouldn't consider myself to be 'service topping' and, on the other hand, in the second I am. That simple for me. I've been bottom to a service top by my definition. Didn't like it so much (except for the obvious physical reactions). I don't like people focusing on stuff 'for me' so much, if there's pleasure for me, I prefer it's incidental and part of my partner's pleasure. Whenever I've 'service' topped I've had a lot of fun with it, because it follows my general desires in making someone feel good.
