It was a huge turn on for me when he chased, stalked and obsessed over me. Wouldn't have it any other way.
But then again he wasn't a creep. My opinion might be slightly different if he was.

To me, chasing implies someone is running away.  Not the case with me.  However, it is rare for me to make first contact - call it an insecurity, shyness, whatever.  So, if someone has an interest and does not make first contact, it's unlikely we'd ever get together.

Once contact is made, I'm willing to engage in conversation to see if there is a connection or not. So, it's really not a chase, just a getting acquainted sort of thing.

In a (probably futile) effort to focus us away from arguments about semantics & linguistics, I'm gonna take this second of your time to reiterate:

. . . . chase is meant in a rather more metaphorical sense . . . .

You may feel free to substitute 'pursue', 'initiate', & such like as suits . . . . . . .

I don't consider it a chase, either; although in one instance, a long time ago, I really did pursue. It was like laying seige to a medieval castle. A protracted campaign, in which I eventually succeeded, and it was a good relationship, but I see no need to do that again.

Fucked if I'm running 'round with flowers and promises. I'm more than happy to make it known to a women that I like her and I think we could get in like a house on fire, but I have better things to do with my time than play hide and seek. I don't like games - you're in or you're out.

This was a situation where I was new at a workplace and there was someone there whom I thought would make a splendid match. She didn't see it that way, though.
At least not initially.

But because it was at work, she was kind of a captive audience, and I engaged on a glacially s-l-o-w effort at "seduction".

It wasn't flowers and that sort of thing, just being patient and getting to know one another over a longer period of time.

She did eventually see things my way, and it did turn out to be a pretty good thing, and yet, I don't see myself doing that again. One reason is because of the time element, as you mention (though back then time seemed more limitless, and I was at work anyway, so...), but also because since then I've been experimenting a little bit with the kinds of relationships that I want to have, which to my mind requires more information at the front end of the thing - and a whole different approach, basically.

All are legit approaches, a matter of personal style as much as anything else . ... . Tho' I suspect that in BDSM there might be patterns .... .

Do tops prefer to chase their desired ones, or do they prefer to be chased by eager bottoms?

Does it break out along D/s / M/s lines?

I tend to be pretty focused on getting what I want. So that means I tend to do what works in that situation. I don't desire to either be passive or active in the mating game... I desire to get my mate.

'Tis a sad but true occurrence but I am regularly being chased, touched up and propositioned by Golden Oldies Ladies of roughly my own age. They appear to fail to understand that Neets is my wife and not my daughter.. Now were they disgustingly rich I could join the ranks of the Senior Gigelos..... RWL. Still 'tis nice fun and we have good coffee meetings and make a few friends. Sadly non are of the submissive persuasion. LOL

I have chased in the past and quite honestly in the vanilla side of things...i playfully chase but thats because...I know it wont go where i would like it to. (call me mean...but i'm honest about my intentions from the get go) Otherwise for anything more serious...I do not chase and simply because I dont have to (no i'mnot conceited).  I'm in no rush to chase and capture and neither do I have a need to be chased and captured...I leave everythign to time.  Either we're a match and our intellectual levels are great enough not to warrant a game of cat and mouse or its not and at that point...it takes care of itself.
