ORIGINAL: DomKen I've spent a lot of time up that way and never heard anything about them. I will have to see about getting up that way this summer. Should be easier to see than it was to get a look at the little key deer down in Florida. Yeah, funny, isn't it? That they've managed to keep it so low-profile for so long? The only way I've heard about them was an odd tangential reference here and there... like the occasional newspaper story about some guy who was charged with shooting an albino deer, and residents of the area were angry because they really value their albino deer. The subtext being, area residents are apparently accustomed to having a lot of albino deer around. Or a guy who took a road-killed albino deer to a taxidermist in Minoqua and the taxidermist reported him. Just an occasional snippet like that from time to time, not really spelling it out, but if you notice enough fragments over the years, you start to realize there seem to be a lot of stories about albino deer in that particular area. Edit: And if you're thinking of making a trip to check 'em out, why don't you drop me a line? I do a lot of camping up north of Hayward, in the Delta-Drummond area if you're familiar with that, and I'd love to coordinate with you. Ever see the elk herd over by Cable?
