if you have made every effort to communicate your willingness to continue the friendship and received no response, just let it go.  you are not walking away, you are just letting things lie in the other person's court for them to pick up or not if they choose.  you tried.  can't do more than that.

Pa and Butch.

Thank you for your concern.  Just so everyone is clear however, this isn't a personal issue about a friend, it was just something that came up in my head after reading all the advice (here) and recommendations(elsewhere) people make about personal relationships.  I wanted to know if the reaction is different when you exchange friendship for relationship.

On the whole, it seems pretty clear - not just here but in general - that people value friendships (platonic) above a relationship.(I am using the word 'relationship' loosely to mean a personal and intimate one).

What I'm not seeing here is communication. How about saying "you get upset if I don't call or email you but you never call or email me" and starting a dialogue about how to balance both your needs?
