Pa and Butch. Thank you for your concern. Just so everyone is clear however, this isn't a personal issue about a friend, it was just something that came up in my head after reading all the advice (here) and recommendations(elsewhere) people make about personal relationships. I wanted to know if the reaction is different when you exchange friendship for relationship. On the whole, it seems pretty clear - not just here but in general - that people value friendships (platonic) above a relationship.(I am using the word 'relationship' loosely to mean a personal and intimate one). the.dark.

What I'm not seeing here is communication. How about saying "you get upset if I don't call or email you but you never call or email me" and starting a dialogue about how to balance both your needs?
