Once there is one arc it leaves a carbon track in the insulating material which facilitates another arc. It is all downhill from there. For most other things that the abovementioned materials won't fix it usually handled by those zip ties they use for handcuffs, or even a bigger version thereof. I used them to reattach the bumper to one of my cars in the old days that was, let's say, not quite in pristeen condition. By the same token, you can't forget the coat hangers. Actually metal coat hangers are becoming a thing of the past, so I hoard them. T
