...So. Now you know. Me-porn. Make good use of it.

That's what I love about digital cameras - the ease with which you can play with them and edit them. I'm still a little too self-critical to enjoy many still pics of myself, but I did make some homemade porn back in the day, and it was interesting feedback - I recognized some things I'd like to change (certain postures, haircut maybe...) and got more comfortable with my body in some other ways.
It was good feedback, apart from being fun to make.

It's interesting that you mention objectification, too.

I recall those Barbara Kruger pieces "Your Gaze Hits the Side of My Face" (or what-have-you) that try to bring attention to objectification and the position of "the viewer". But digital technology puts everyone in charge of their own objectification, thus; My Gaze Hits the Side of My Face (and So Can Yours!)

Then there's side questions of; if the viewer is objectifying and possessing the subject, what is the subject/object, in turn, viewing?

Nothing? Just enjoying their feelings, perhaps?

Maybe that would be a new wrinkle in porn directing: a camera shot from the subject/object's point of view.

OK, maybe not - but, anyway, just a random thought.

... Male/male is definitely my favorite, although I can't say that I identify with any of the participants, but I do let it spark a fantasy of watching and directing the action.

I bolded that part because I've been wondering what I get out of watching porn. Where do I sort of place myself, in relationship to it - if anywhere.

I know it's kind of a goofy question, but I'm really not sure, and it seems like it should be a simple question to answer.

The parts in bold, above, are possibilities.

I don't think that I want to "be" any of the actors in the kind of straight porn that I tend to go for.

But perhaps it is simply the power: the voyeur's perspective is one of complete access, which is a kind of power. And the sort of porn that I like tends to show *some* kind of D/s dynamic; even if it's not explicit, and only supplied by my imagination.
To see some emotional depth present alongside submission is hot to me.

Obviously, not all porn fits that bill.

I'm curious about the fantasy of ownership of some kind because that would seem to include access to all the emotional states as well as physical access; the mind-fucks, and so forth.

The fantasy that gets going might be more that I could have that kind of access if I so chose; which is not about being the male actor. He ideally merely represents an illustration (and probably a rather random one) of some of my own thoughts.

Ok ~ I want to comment on BKSir's link , too, but I also gotta do something else with this day at some point.

I love conflict and a struggle in a story, and porn or not, a movie needs a worthwhile story to keep my interest. Most porn just doesn't have that. ...and neither do romance novels, while I'm at it, haha!

Also whether it be male/male or female/female, homosexual interactions really are the only thing that can turn me on. Personally, for whatever reason, I get some serious squick towards anything heterosexual, porn or not.

Ok, I see the title and think "yes, please, I enjoy porn!"

I tend to think more along the lines of picturing myself and Daddy in the action. I know it sounds silly and romantic but He's the only person who really gets me hot and bothered. So while I may watch some, ultimately I'm picturing Him in it, doing whatever to me. And I don't watch just any porn because I've come (oh the bad pun I could make there!) to know myself and what I enjoy and know that some just doesn't do a thing for me. It doesn't necessarily squick me out, it just leaves me cold. Squick-y porn is another thread. *winks*

But then, my father taught me to read when I was little by using Playboy. They had some of the best jokes in there. Pictures were incidental.

Hmmm, depends on the kind of porn.  What I have mostly seen lately is still photos of women in bondage or undergoing some kind of torment, in which case I am absolutely identifying with and wishing I was her -- to the point where I sometimes think the only career choice that I could truly enjoy would be that of young, cute, female bondage model, for which, sadly, I am mentally well suited, but physicaly totally unqualified.

The erotica I tend to enjoy most is in written story form (though appropriate ilustations help).  There, who I identify with depends on the story -- it's usually the submissive or "victim" regardless of gender, if it's some kind of D/s dynamic.  Given my gender issues, feminization stories (whether forced or sympathetic) are definitely among my favorites, if well-written.  One problem I have had is the story that starts out with this premise, but skips over the details of the actual feminization experience to get to the fucking.  In fact, that's often my objection to a lot of written porn, and for that matter, what cyber-sex I have had:  I want to know who the characters are, how they got there, how they feel about what's happening.  The actual thrusting and groaning may be wonderful to experience, but it's very dull to read about.  I remember one story in a cheapo porn paper that started out promisingly enough with the main character being a detective who was going to investigate a case involving a woman abducted into sexual slavery -- but then there was like five pages of him fucking his secretary before going out the door.  And I kid you not, as I skimmed along, I gasped in amazement around the third page when there was a paragraph that actually contained more than one sentence.  It was a very good example of "how not to" for writers.

Interestingly, I've read a few romantic novels recently -- for example, Phillippa Gregory's The Other Boelyn Girl -- which I greatly enjoyed, but I was particularly surprised to find how strongly I identified with the heroine/narrator, and how much I enjoyed the sections where she is being courted by and falling in love with Henry VIII.    It really made me wish for the same kind of feelings.  This is where my gender confusion kicks in, as I long to be courted in that fashion -- the idea makes me feel delightfully feminine and fluttery -- but I have a lot of trouble actually imagining being in love with a man, and sustaining a relationship with one.  (So, if there are any women out there for whom the idea of playing the masculine role in a romance, drop me a line....)

However, I should note I tried years ago reading some Harlequin-type romance novels (at the time I was considering the idea of trying to write them -- it seems like a large market) but wow, were they stupid and dull.  So I don't think the romance alone is enough -- again, I want characters and stories and settings that are interesting in themselves.

As for video porn, to be honest, I haven't been exposed to enough of it; it's just never had the same appeal to me as written.  I suspect that for a full-length film, I'd again want some kind of story that I could get into.  If it's just something to jack off to, then, not necessarily.  (I've read a statistic from someone in the hotel industry that, when someone orders a pay-per-view adult film in a hotel, the average length of time the film is actually watched is eleven minutes.  I don't think one needs any great mental leap to guess why....)

However, as to the theory suggested that in guy/girl porn, they often use average-looking male actors, I've certainly heard that suggested as one reason for the popularity of people like Ron Jeremy.  If Joe Sixpack watching sees some guy who looks like Brad Pitt screwing a hot big-busted porn actress, he probably just feels jealousy.  But when you see a not-particularly-handsome guy with a bit of a beer belly doing her, you think, "Hey, maybe I've got a shot!"

(It could also have something to do with economics -- it might be that the really hot guys find they can make more money elsewhere, and don't have particular trouble getting laid, either.  On the other hand, dumpy looking guys might be willing to work cheap on the theory it's the only way they'll ever get to touch women like that....)

As long as your emphasis is on the "typically", I could go along with that provisionally, BKSir.

I tend to shy away from explanations from biology, myself.

I have some resident skepticism about how we interpret "nature" to explain our behavior.

I tend to focus primarily on cultural emphasis, and personal early childhood experiences as our biggest influences.

Thus, I would probably agree more with comments like this one, that were left at the end of that article;

"...However, I would imagine that women become more aroused to other women because it is not shunned by in society. They are never really influenced in any way to suppress this feeling. Also, what do they mean by arousal? Women would probably be easier aroused then men are, and what exaclty is arousement for women? for men? Is it just a feeling, or ... you know ..."

I don't rule out biological arguments. But it's just so hard to prove anything in a convincing fashion.

I've sometimes jokingly said that porn is the guy's vibrator.

Who knows? maybe there's some truth to it.

Another thing; in that article they just mention porn: porn with all women, porn with all men, or het porn. But there's no mention of the dynamic portrayed, if any.

I, for instance, don't have any interest in seeing girl/girl porn, particularly, but I did see some once that was hot (to me) because it had a nasty Domme and a sad and sweet little sub in it.

The dynamics are what's of interest to me; otherwise, the sex itself can be ...not necessarily that big a deal.

Now ~ Maybe there was no dynamic portrayed, but one can be supplied by the viewer...sometimes it doesn't have to be explicitly depicted, but more of a sort of undertone...

Porn makes me happy.  I love watching any combination of people, gay, straight or bi as long as it looks like they are having fun and not just getting a paycheck.  (The exception being in some porn they aren't supposed to look like they are having fun, in which case I want tears and screaming)  I love the sounds people make.  It fuels my fantasies and makes me happy.  I like porn much more than many guys I know.

I like porn photos MUCH more than the porn flicks I have seen.  I actually tend to get the giggles during pornos- I don't find them sexy, arousing, or sensual.  I tend to find them very silly.  Even if the actors are hot, it loses any allure as soon as they start talking- as the dialog and plot tend to be incredibly lame.  I suppose most people don't watch for the cinematic aesthetics...lol...but, I just can't get past how corny most of it is.

Thanks for the feedback, pinnipedster (and others).
While the function of porn may most often be the obvious and simple peek-n-wank, it's interesting to see that people kind of interact with it in different ways in their minds.

There is a formula to writing such things. You can find it on line I suppose. Every few pages this has to happen, and every few pages that has to happen. Rules for how the characters interact, what their fates may (and may not) be, and so forth.

Guys like that may look average (sometimes), but generally they have larger than average cocks. That's part of the reason why I don't quite get that theory. Unless the viewer is supposed to pretend that he has a stuntcock. But, if that's the case, the viewer could just as well pretend he's good looking, while he's at it. So I don't think the theory exactly holds water as such.

Well, yeah, but usually by the time she sees the cock things have already gotten started -- so you might get at least one shot, even if she never comes back.

Besides, we all know size doesn't matter, right?  :D

Interesting how many women like male-male gay porn.  Hmmmm...  Not my thing really.  In fact I don't like any gay porn.  That is unless it involves Jenna Jameson - then I like the female-female thing.  Anyway, to respond to the topic .... I watch a lot of porn and it totally gets me off.  Part of that is due to the convenience.  I've never had anyone who could keep up with my appetite, so porn is a way for me to indulge by myself.  But there is also the part of actually witnessing the act.  I like the subservient roles.

I love nerd porn. I actually posted a question about it a long time ago.

It's strange though. I know a large number of pro-Dommes. They look like fashion models, but they have a geeky side. They go to Star-Trek conventions, comic book shows and are heavily involved in techie culture. I know they have the qualities of nerds, but I'd love to be dominated by a geeky woman with stringy hair, acne, braces on her teeth and terrible fashion sense.

When it comes to porn, I hate seeing the cum shot. It actually disgusts me. I also hate seeing some hairy guys ass bouncing up and down on the middle of my screen as he screws the woman I actually bought the video to see, underneath his hairy body.

I never understood why so many people seem to like seeing the woman's head while the guy jerks off his cock in her face.

If I had my choice, I'd prefer seeing the guy on the bottom as the woman rides him. Or she's fingering herself over the guy's mouth. I want to see 95% woman to 5% partial guy.

Maybe that's why I buy mostly girl on girl porn.

I've always assumed the cum shot is there mainly so they can say "See!  They're doing it for real."
