A friend recently recommended me trying Boost Mobile when I mentioned wanting to switch to a better, more affordable pay as you go cell service. I would like to get some feedback on how their service is. Is there anyone here that uses them? Are they good? Is the coverage area good?

I have looked at their site a bit so far, found places in my area to get their phones and cards if I want, seen the plan that would work best for me. It all sounds great so far, but I'd like to hear from people who use or have used it and get input from those who have actually had experience with it or know people who have experience with it.

Boost in the US is owned by Sprint. Your coverage will be as good as the Sprint network in your area.

Thanks. I'd been told they were part of Sprint. I'll check Sprint's coverage area. Appreciate the feedback.

So far it still sounds like the best option for me.

Virgin Mobil also uses the Sprint network.

So that gives you a few more options.

Actually, while Boost is owned by Sprint, they DO NOT use Sprint towers. They use the old Nextel towers (Sprint and Nextel merged). I have also been looking for a new phone plan and checked in depth at my local radio shack regarding service and such. Here is some of the information I gathered:

Boost and Virgin are both owned by Sprint. Virgin Mobile uses Sprint towers and depending on Sprint in your area (they are not as good in the Northeast but getting better) depends on what kind of service you will get. Boost Mobile uses Nextel's old towers which Sprint now owns. As Nextel was never as widely available as the bigger carriers, there are fewer towers, so it depends on how big Nextel ever was in your area before they were bought by Sprint.

There is also another carrier, called MetroPCS, but last I checked it was only available in parts of Florida, California, and Arizona or Texas (but growing). It is another no contract, unlimited everthing carrier. I don't know how much they have expanded, but you might want to go to their web site to see if they are available near you.

Virgin just introduced (on their web page) and new unlimited minutes plan for 49.99 a month. To add unlimited texting is another 10.00 a month. They also have the minute card plans. These are no contract, no credit check plans. There is also a web plan (with limited usage) for an additional cost.

Boost Mobile has a 49.99 a month unlimited talk plan which INCLUDES unlimited texting and unlimited web access. Certainly a better deal cost wise, but it depends on service in your area.

A friend of mine had Virgin Mobile and her texts took a long time to go through. No idea why.

On both of these plans, you must purchase the phone. They have phones ranging from like 15.00 up to 200.00 depending on what "bells and whistles" you need.

I have been thinking of buying one of the inexpensive boost phones and a minute card to check how the service is. If the service in my area is good, then I would upgrade to a better phone and the unlimited plan.

Thanks for the info on Virgin Mobile. I have been with them for 3 years now and it has been about a month since the last time I was on the site. The last time I checked, their unlimited was $99.99 a month. Pay as you go can be very limiting when you're on a strict budget. It looks like I may be able to stick with them and still get the unlimited at a price I can handle. I am going to do some more comparison before deciding for sure.

I am going to check out that link, outlier, thank you. I want the best bang for my buck which includes service area. Very much appreciate it.

Boost is the hottest thing going right now since you can get unlimited every thing for $50 per month. They are blowing contract carriers out of the water right now. (I do cellular service for a living) I live in an area that has alot of trouble with people getting cell signals from all of the major carriers and I've heard nothing bad about them at all.

The unlimited service from Boost runs on the Sprint network, the pay as you go runs on the Nextel network.
