Reality TV Show = making ammends for his mistakes according to Vick.

Really Mike ?

How about spending a little of  your time working in a no kill shelter ?
How doing a little public speaking in areas where dogfighting is prevelant and try educating the younger generation on the ills of participating in such a  " sport " ?
How about working with one of the many animal rights groups who are trying to stop dog fighting ?
How about testifying before Congress about the hidden underground workings of dog fighting rings ?
Ohh, that's right, there is no money in doing something meaningful  that will help eradicate dogfighting. Silly me.

This man absolutely sickens me, and whatever TV company airs this abortion will be on my permanant ban list, as will who ever sponsors it. < God, I hope it's not A&E, I love that channel >
And I hope to hell whatever $10.00 an hour construction company that is a co conspirator in this disgrace gets protested daily and falls belly up finacially.

Michael Vick is indeed a gigantic douchebag.  I've never understood the pleasure some folks derive from watching two dogs kill each other.  Well wait a minute......when I was 12 years old, my buddies and I found a scorpion and tarantula.  We tossed both of them under a glass bowl to see what would happen.  Now I was 12, not a grown man.  Vicks has no excuse.

slvemike4u -> RE: Michael Vick Reality show ???? (4/19/2009 10:44:18 AM)

Vick is scum...but he has a right to make a living. If this proposed show is any sort of success it will say more about us,the viewing public than Vick.We already know all we need to know about Vick.

MissMorrigan -> RE: Michael Vick Reality show ???? (4/19/2009 10:46:58 AM)

I just had to look the guy up as I had no idea who he was. He pled guilty to the federal felony charge against him concerning dog fighting, so why is the NFL continuing to employ him? I know he's on 'suspension', but is that pending the outcome of a decision or is that a set term for him and he will be fully reinstated?

More importantly, why the hell is the media still pandering to him?

I lived briefly on an estate in South East London called 'Thamesmead', ugh, lovely memories as a child, NOT! A short distance away is Abbeywood, it was notorious for dog fighting and animals in the local area were constantly going missing. It was widely rumoured they were winding up being rounded up by those involved in the fighting and tossed to the dogs to stimulate them before a fight. Even the thought of it makes me sick to my stomach.

Anyone who could derive pleasure from the suffering of another person/creature's life is the lowest there is in terms of scummy behaviour and it's a bloody shame tougher sentencing isn't given for the perpetrators of these crimes.

maybemaybenot -> RE: Michael Vick Reality show ???? (4/19/2009 11:10:09 AM)

MissMorgan:

I *think* his continued employment is related to all players having a legal contract with the NFL under the Players union. He is not recieving any pay or benefits on suspension. I * think * suspension is the harshest punishment available to the NFL while a player is under contract.
Once he is released from prison he will need to apply for re instatement and the Commissioner will have to make a decision as to re instate him or not. It is my opinion if he were to get re instatement, no team will pick him up. The team he played for at the time of his incarceration has dropped him, so if he were to return he is a free agent and no team has an obligation to actually employ him.

Mike : I agree he has a right to seek employment, unfortunately. It just bites my ass that he is saying  that this is to make ammends. Completely transparent. No lesson learned, still an egomaniacal A hole. Crimes against children and animals are the highest degree of crime in my own little world. If I were in charge, he would be in for 20-life. That's how strongly I feel about those sorts of crimes.
Personally, I suspect that his guys have done some hunting around and are finding that getting him backin the NFL is going to be damn near impossible and are pursuing this line of employment.

As strongly as I feel about what he did, if I saw him get out of prison and do some real, meaningful work to help eliminate this sports' popularity, I would have a very miniscule amount of regard for him. Not neccesarily as a career move, but like other prisoners who get out and work with organization to stop crime, educate youth against criminal life, gang life, etc.

And I agree 1000% percent it will speak more to " us"  if anyone actually turns that show on. I watch A&E a lot, I mean alot, I love it. I will not ever tune it in again if they pick up this show.

yanno...this is really pushing the reality crap a little too far [8|]

MissMorrigan -> RE: Michael Vick Reality show ???? (4/19/2009 11:40:15 AM)

The reality of this situation is that he's directly caused or contributed to causing considerable suffering for a lot of dogs. He can't make amends but what he can do is help others work towards eradicating dog fighting and it's very unlikely he'll do that. If my understanding is correct, those convicted of felonous crimes are not able to profit directly from those crimes so this should be extended to receiving monies from programs associated with him. I would not prevent him from making a living, but I would limit how such a person makes a living if it were within my means. Get his arse working for animal shelters and animal cruelty charities.

slvemike4u -> RE: Michael Vick Reality show ???? (4/19/2009 11:46:18 AM)

Better the market,by ignoring this piece of human shit sends that message. And as far as I'm concerned that extends to any talent he might still possess at playing football....Fuck him and fuck any team that would accept this man in their locker room.

MasterG2kTR -> RE: Michael Vick Reality show ???? (4/19/2009 11:46:41 AM)

This is an excellent place to reference a thread that I started a week ago about the lack of quality television programming here in the US.

http://www.collarchat.com/m_2553920/tm.htm

Aside from that I agree with the OP that if Vick really wants to get some public approval he should consider doing community service in animal shelters, etc. In fact, if there were any "real justice" in this country, the judge should have ordered that as part of his punishment!

maybemaybenot -> RE: Michael Vick Reality show ???? (4/19/2009 11:52:57 AM)

It's referred to as the Son of Sam law, here in the US. It prohibits a criminal from making a profit by re telling their crime on TV, in published materials, in a movie or other depiction.
In Vicks case, as long as he isn't re telling his story in this potential reality show, he is within the law.

I'm a "cat person" so I don't care much for dogs.
That's probably why I don't feel the "outrage" that some do.
Watching a cat move, pounce and stalk is like owning a miniature tiger.
I watch some of the other residents in these condos chasing their dogs around and picking up their shit after them and wonder to myself; "which end of the leash are these idiots on?"
Dog fighting is a "federal" crime? I wonder who they'd go after first, a dog fighter or an illegal alien?
Like Mike says this Vick guy has paid his debt to society and has the right to make a living.
And as far as I'm concerned  those French Poodles with pink ribbons on them should be eradicated. YUCK!
My big Tomcat "Bubba" would tear the living shit out of them!

Always the loophole, Mbmbn.

maybemaybenot -> RE: Michael Vick Reality show ???? (4/19/2009 12:07:01 PM)

It's just too bad that spineless piece of shit DA, Poindexter, in Virginia agreed to give Vick a suspended sentence, instead of the 10 year incarceration he should have recieved. He would be on his way out of the Federal Pen and on his way to his new abode in a Virginia prison.
Of course from the beginning Poindexter didn't have the testicular fortitude to proceed at the state level, where it should have been. Hence the Feds had to jump in. Virginia state law is actually tougher than the Federal law. Federal Max is 5 years plus fines. Virginia Law's Max. in Vicks case would have been 10 years.

Well, popeye, maybe this will outrage you: They use little kitty cats like, Bubba as bait to get the killer blood going. That's how they teach them to kill.

"Dogs are trained to fight from an early age mainly by beating, taunting and starving them. By using other small animals as bait such as cats, rabbits or other small dogs, the fighting dog is taunted and trained to kill, something which dogs do not do naturally unless there is a need for food. "

I'm a cat person too. I have worked far to long with animal rescue groups for cats and have had to witness the aftermath of this type of abuse of cats and other horrendous deeds to not be outraged.

LadyTeazer -> RE: Michael Vick Reality show ???? (4/19/2009 1:09:51 PM)

The first question that comes to my mind is why are Michael Vick and "reality" even mentioned in the same sentence?   How much more obvious can it be that this...this...this, heck, I don't even know what to call him, is completely out of touch with reality?

You can see it clearly on his face that he has no regret or remorse for what he did, and does not even comprehend that he did anything wrong.

I hope that the people who work in TV have the common sense to not give this vile idiot a show.  But that's probably not very likely to happen, TV being what it has sunk to anymore.  So I hope that all the decent people still left out there boycott the show, the network that will air it, and its sponsors.

Although putting Vick to work in an animal shelter sounds like a good idea, I wouldn't want him anywhere near any animal ever again.  I wouldn't trust him.  It wouldn't surprise me one little bit if he told his old buddies that he spotted some great dogs at the shelter that would be good to use for bait, so come on down and get them.

Whatever happened to the wisdom of making the punishment fit the crime?   It's too bad that I was not the judge in his case.  Forget prison time.  Too easy.  Not even a slap on the wrist for what he did.  Make him go through what he made those poor innocent dogs go through.   Order him to be stripped naked, hands and ankles bound, then put in the ring with ALL of the fighting dogs, to be used as bait to get them all worked up.  If he survives that, then toss his mangled stupid ass in prison for the rest of his miserable and worthless life.  "Without" giving him any medical attention.  Treat him just like those poor dogs were treated.  Give him a taste of his own medicine.

The laws in this country for animal abuse and/or neglect are MUCH too soft.  And the judges are far too lenient on offenders.  Until such time as the laws are changed, this disgusting type of behaviour will continue, it saddens me to say.  The attitudes of the people in this country need to change, before the laws can be changed.  To the vast majority, it is  "just a dog/cat/ferret/horse--fill in the critter of your choice".   No, it is not "just" a critter.  It is a living, sentient being.  And science (psychology) has proven time and time again that the people who abuse those that they see as "lesser" or weaker than themselves (be it an animal or a child or a woman), are not only disturbed, but that they will continue to abuse, and that that abuse will continue to escalate.

There was one bright spot in this whole Vick thing.  I read a few months ago that while he was still in prison,  his house (a $3 or $4 million mansion) went up for auction.  And it did not sell.  NO ONE bid on it.   YAY!!!!!!!!!

Maybe, sorry but I just don't "care" about dogs.
They need them in Ireland and Scotland for sheep herding etc but what the hell does anyone in this country need with a sheepdog unless they're out West herding sheep or something?
You go to the inner cities and the drug dealers have these huge viscious dogs to protect their "stash."
Like I said I'm not a "dog person."
As far as I'm concerned they're work animals to be used on a farm or for herding.

The reality show should end with the first show...all leading up to a very nice pleasant ending with a bunch of pit bulls slowly descending on him.

In a locked cage.

With cameras everywhere.

Hey, maybe they'll air Vick's reality TV show on the same channel as the one that's putting IL Governor Bloggo on... I think that one is called something like, "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!"

It could make a great lineup:

The Dog Whisperer
The Dog Torturer
The Constituent Torturer

Looks like it'll be a success. If you check out the poll at the bottom of the article, so far 68% have voted "give him a chance". That's just sad and sickening...
