im new to bdsm with my partner who is also fairly new to the scene
but i noticed after we used nipple clamps for the first time it was not over bearingly sore or anything just maybe a lil uncomfy  tbut for about 3-4 days after wards there was blood stains in my bra and always dried blood on my nipples and they were quite sensative and and uncomfy while getting dressed and in the cold.  does anyone know if this is normal or why this happens? and will it happen if we use them again?

would really appricate some advice

It doesn't sound normal to me.  i have never experienced any bleeding from my nipples having used clamps, but that is not to say it doesn't happen to some.  Regardless of others experiences though, i would still want to go and get it checked out by a Doctor for my own peace of mind.

Status: offline 		hunnibunni, how long were they in place?  I remember in another thread, 15-20 minutes was the max recommended.

What kind of clamps are we talking about? I've got a harsh pair of medical clamps that bruise after all of 1 sec, I think the nipples would fall off before 15 min. with them.

Status: offline 		I would not use that particular nipple clamp again.  It could be a bad design.  I would start slowly and build my way up.  If there is any sign of burises or blood, stop immediately.

Status: offline 		Some more information might be helpful, such as: what kind of clamps, how long were they on, were they tugged on, pulled off, fell off, is there bruising, is the surface of the nipple raw, where the clamps placed behind the nipples or directly on them, does the blood seem to be coming from the surface of the nipple or the lactiferous duct?

What I suspect happened was that the clamps made your nipples raw, it was more painful the second day just like a rug burn and there was some seepage and then scabbing just like a rug burn. But that's just a guess from a little bit of text.

As for whether it's common and will it happen again, there are a number of kinds of clamps that plenty of people use without bleeding. However, if you fit the Irish girl stereotype of having extremely delicate skin and bruising easily, you'll tend to end up bruised or raw from plenty of common bdsm practices that might not do much to thicker skinned individuals.

Status: offline 		Sounds like alligator clamps, or some type of clamp used for electrical transfer, like a small jumper cable type.

i had those on once (bound and gagged so complaining was less problem for the Domme), and they were not a pleasurable experience.  Looking down at those sharp toothed monsters devouring my engorged nipples still gives me the creeps.  They were on for maybe ten minutes, and ten was more than enough.

If they break the skin (mine did not) i think they would not heal well, so the bloody residue is understandable.

Status: offline 		Alligator clamps can be harsh and probably are not the best for a beginner.  Also, because of the teeth I don't think they are the best for slapping off.  My guess is yes the same thing will happen if used again.

Status: offline 		   Well, vanilla is normal, you've already checked normal at the door when you entered this life style. So I can't really answer whether it's normal for your bdsm to involve a little bit of bleeding (I'm assuming that we are talking about a little bit not something that's produced noticeable damage to the nipple). Personally I've never broken the skin with clamps and wouldn't want to as the nipples are slow to heal. There are a number of different kinds of alligator clamps, depending on the size they can be anything from a large surface area that gives a gentle pressure(as far as clamps go), to a small area with teeth under the rubber that gives a sharp pain.

  There are a couple of things that you can do to save your nipples, first pinch the skin behind the nipple with your fingers to flatten it so that you can slide the clamp over the nipple and clamp the skin behind it. Second use the screw to set the clamps to tighter, I know this is counterintuitive but if your clamps are adjusted loose enough that they are falling off easily your more likely to get bruising and scrapes. 

  I prefer clover clamps to alligator clamps as they don't have the same problem of falling off. But everyone will give you a different answer. If the two of you are able, the best solution would probably be to go somewhere that sells different clamps to see what's right for you.

Status: offline 		There are some clamps that are specifically designed to be ripped/slapped/whipped off, and can be connected together in "zippers." You might want to look into that as an option.

Status: offline 		Just a suggestion, go get some wooden clothespins and use them for slapping off. You'll probably want to give your nipples a bit of time to heal up first at any rate, but if you still have a problem afterwards, discontinue using them, or try something else. Also, that discussion with your doctor isn't a bad idea either.

Good God!  mine were just placed on, and done rather carefully.  It was not that the pain was that horrendous; it was the prospect of tearing and pain that the clamps surely would have caused if pulled or slapped.  Yes they hurt, but no damage was done. 

How long did those freakin' things stay on you?!!!!!!

Delicate tissues, fragile skin, structures underneath that are necessary for breast-feeding (if you're female, of age, and plan or wish to have children)—yikes! I have some small ones in my kit but none of my subs were ever interested in that much ow factor.

Wooden spring clothespins are a good place to start (relatively large clamp surface, smooth clamp surface); plastic ones can be disinfected between uses. Both can be slapped or snapped or cropped off without ripping holes in your flesh, generally speaking.

The smaller the clamp the more painful as a rule. Big ones spread out the pinch.

I'd post your query about the health of nipples after play like this in the Health and Safety forum. And I would make sure NOT to try kinky techniques until you (and your top) have done basic safety research on the technique/s. This sounds as though someone was just trying to reproduce a kinky porn scene.

Status: offline 		i think a novice tried something from the intermediate level. start small and work up. sometimes even clothespins need some modification. i have left nipple clamps on for hours and have had no problems, but i have been doing it for years too. if you are new to this, why are you trying so hard? ease into things, and realize, different things work for different people. nipples can be a great source of entertainment, but like the genitals, you can also do a great deal of damage.

The ones I had on were similar to the stockroom type - though without the vinyl tips.  They had teeth, but no thumbscrew and no chain. 

The Domme I was seeing was fond of using devices that looked terrifying but she used them more for effect, although those things did hurt.  I could not have endured them for any length of time.  Not sure how someone can stand having clamps of any kind on for an hour or hours....seems unduly risky to me.  Isn't this supposed to be enjoyable?
