In a recent post, users were testing their searches (see original thread here) which got me thinking about what YOU use for a search, and what YOU get as realistic results (given that we need to weed out the scam profiles and that we want to find a real partner in most cases).

My SEARCH ==> Gender:Female => Orientation:Submissives => State:California => Sexuality:All => Ethnicity:Any => Age Range:35-60 => Max Weight:140 pounds => Min Height:Any => Max Distance:25 Miles => Seeking: Dominant Men ... List As:Text List ... Sort By:Last On ...

My RESULTS ==> Only 12 "hits" that meet my (pragmatic) search criteria (limiting results to last on since 1/1/2009)

By way of comparison, what is YOUR favorite CM search criteria and how many hits do YOU get?

Note 1: There is no option for "Orientation=Submissives-or-Switches"; nor is there an option for "Sexuality=Straight-or-Bisexual" so I'm forced to add "Any" and "All" respectively ... this skews things a bit making my selection pool look larger than it really is in practice.

Note 2: The "Age" limitation is designed to weed out scammers and to be around my age for realistic purposes.

Note 3: The "State" and "Max Distance" filters appear to be redundant, while the "Min Height" doesn't have a corresponding

Status: offline 		I don't usually search for profiles, though I do look at ones that are interesting on the first page, but my basic criteria are men, any orientation, age 21-49, within 50 miles, who are looking for a female switch. I figure that gay guys aren't likely to look for women, and that spam profiles from men, of any age, are relatively rare. Anyway, that came up with 164 who have logged in yesterday or today. Of course, a lot of them are in relationships already, or aren't compatible for other reasons. That age range is roughly within 15 years of mine, which is approximately the limits I'm interested in.

Status: offline 		I'll do a search for whatever state I am in, over 18, any orientation, any sexuality, any ethnicity, any gender.  Usually get a whole page of people who have been on the site in the past hour, and sometimes many more depending on state.  I am not looking for a partner.   I'm just seeing who is still around from last time I was in the area, and the people I've met at munches.

Status: offline 		I tend to use text searches on my favorite terms and "Submissive".  That creates few enough hits as it is.

Status: offline 		I have never used weight as a criteria - especially since I am not specifying height.  230 might look great on a tall man while it would be obese on someone 5'6". 

I wish that you could choose multiples when selecting under Looking For.  If I could I would then look for those looking for friends only, for a sub, for a poly household, or for romance all at once instead of having to do each separately.

I just love that my current search (Gender: Male || Sexuality: Gay) will occasionally show up with zero results on my main page XD usually there's pages and pages.

Status: offline 		I vary it around. I've had CM profiles for nearly 3 years & I've tried all kinds of things . . . . .

Currently I'm wanting to be more open to what I see, & so I've got all the boxes 'unchecked', everything open to all & any & am watching the parade go by when I 'pass by' that part of the site . . . . . .

& I've used all those search features to compare, contrast, & see what all is out there far more than any kind of personal dating search . . .. . I tend to think of it as 'market analysis', hehehehe . . .. . . Or 'sociological research' . ... . Or 'anthropologically interesting' . ... ... . & certainly 'kink educational' . . . . . .

I find that more important than the gender & orientations choices, for me, is the 'They Are Seeking' pull-down .. . . It's surprising what that feature can display . . . . . I generally put in 'Switch Women' & am always delighted at all the gay men who show up as looking for 'Switch Women', for instance .. ... . (Mmmmmmm, men kissing men, yeah . .. ... . Um, what was I talking about? Oh, yeah . .. .. . )

I rarely select California only, & the numero uno reason why is that I see myself as being a one-in-a-million taste (at best -- on the bad days it feels more like one-in-a-trillion, but anyways) . . . . . If I stick to only Cali, that gives me one-in-36 odds (completely ignoring the CM thing all-together, just raw number crunching) . .. . . My worldwide average expecation of ~6,700 potential 'good fits' are probably not gonna be 'close' to me geographically . ... . . (& may not even know what CM is -- ha!)

I usually don't care about the 'Relocatable' function . . ... . If it becomes an issue, the big huge if, -- twue wuv conquers all, & all that . .. .. .

& I tend to only really be interested in looking at the ones who have a pic -- to me having a pic 'reads' as being 'more serious' . . . . . (No offense to the many who don't post pics -- most of you here on the forums without pics are: taken, not looking, & so on . . . . . . ) . . . . . On CM I see pics as falling into 3 broad categories (mostly): (i) exhibitionism, (ii) available & on display, & (iii) luring for other purposes . . .. . .

Oh. & I never use the 'Interest Search', it's darn near worthless since it does _not_ distinguish between 'Lives For', 'Loves', & so on thru to 'Hard Limits' . . . .. .

& I do use the 'Text / City' search function, that's fairly useful . . .. . Especially for seeing who all from my 'local' community have profiles on CM . . . . . ..

Okay, so when I am looking for what I think I want, when I'm feeling 'goal-oriented' about this whole thing:

Gender: Any
Orientation: (usually) Any (If not that, then frequently I set it to 'Switches')
All States & Country Not Specified
Sexuality: (sometimes) All (If not that, then generally I set it to 'Bisexual')
Ethnicity: Any
Age: ~26-30 to ~44-50 (depends on my mood, what results I get, what I've been getting in the spam-box, what I've been reading in the forums, etc)
Max Weight: 180
Min Height: 6'
Any Distance
They Are Seeking: Switch Women

But I'm less & less enthusiastic about that whole train of thought, as it feels like it eliminates too much possibility for serendipity, the bugaboo of over-control . . . .. .

*shrugs shoulders*

(Oh, & yeah, still not coming in a 'Reader's Digest Abridged Version', hehehehe . . . . . )

I tend to search for the following and using Kia's terms... I am rather goal oriented about the whole thing. I hate to use the term "waste my time"... but I try to focus on what I am looking for in a partner and let the making of friends be a great side benefit.

And... I'm totally copying and pasting Kia's list, too. *smooches to her*

Gender: Male
Orientation: Dominants
State: Florida
Sexuality: Straight
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Age: 26-39
Max Weight: blank
Min Height: blank
Distance: blank
They Are Seeking: Not Specified

I tend to just put the name of the areas near me. This nets more results than putting in my zipcode. I'm willing to travel up to about 30-40 miles, but I am not willing to relocate, so I try and keep my search close.

I get between five and ten hits a day. Not all of them message me, and I don't tend to message them unless they are in my same city or they have an outstanding profile that I just have to ask about or comment on.

But I do think that if the OP can steel himself to increase his radius by 10 miles then he will double the area which he is addressing.

Ah, so as to justify posting this for a reason other than me being an obnoxious attention whore (AW - soon to be a trade-marked acronym) . . . . .

Ummm, oh, yeah, I realized I forgot to answer part of OP's question: how many hits do I get using my methodology?

Damned if I know, usually lots, page after page, but my search parameters are pretty broad (funnily enough, even tho' there are few pretty broads in the results, but anywho) . . . . . . & when I flip thru, darn few ever possess some combo of characteristics that fit my needs . . . . lol

Gender - Female and Trans
Orientation - usually Any, though occasionally Dominant
States - All States usually, though I do Florida sometimes. Wish I could choose the southern states though.
Country - I leave it on United States. Only because anything in the U.S. is possible, but out of country might be a stretch.
Sexuality - All
Ethnicity - Any
Age Range - 25 to 61, though sometimes higher or lower, depending.
Max Weight - Any
Max Height - Any
Seeking - Sub-Men

I leave photos only ticked because I like the eye candy now.
I have the list as Text and sorted by last on.

Using my search criteria, Trans Dominants is a short list for Florida, longer for all U.S. Female Dominants is a longer list, both All States and Florida.

Gender: Female
Orientation: Any
State: Connecticut
Sexuality: All
Ethnicity: All
Age: 18-35
Height/Weight: Any
Max Distance: Any
They are Seeking: Switch Men

And sorted by last on...

At the moment it's around 20 ish results, who have been on in the past two weeks... But then as early as the second page it goes right to people who haven't been on for a month or longer.

If I set it to max distance 50 miles instead of just in Connecticut, there are a few more matches but not many more....

I never asked this in the off-topic forum as I never peruse anything but the "general BDSM" forum. Someone (a moderator prol'ly) must've moved the original but I thought they deleted it. So, I ended up posting the same question ... only I spent even more time to compose it. So, I can say that I didn't know this was even here.

The answers here are more interesting than the answers there, BTW... very very interesting. How different we all are. And how different are our search selections.
