Perhaps he was confused that he was in a land of freedom? If he had half the talent that Rumsfeld or Obama have to dodge questions, this would never have been a story.

Dang... I carried over 11,000. in mostly fifties when I left Colorado. Glad I didn't get pulled over! All I was doing was buying something cash when I got here and we didn't want banking problems. That poor guy! I don't think four thousand odd dollars in cash while traveling is a bad thing if you feel safe carrying it. People used to do it all the time.

LOL. What I mean is the $4500/$4700 buys very little. Maybe it did in 1970. but not in 2009. A few people I know carry a large amount of money on them. Well- under 10k- but more then a trip for a carton of milk. I tend not to- for years I worked at a gas station. So I never had more then $30 on me. $4700 would not buy much of a cruise or many 2 week vacations. Not known is if he was going out of the country. Moving over 10k across national lines has rules...but state lines??? no. If it were me- I would not have had the cash in a tote bag. I would have it ON ME. Travelling- well- can attract being mugged- especially if you look like a tourist. I suspect- the Political stickers in his bag were a factor.
