Status: offline 		Wonderfull news. The French are threatening to walk away, if they dont get their own way. I think they and the Germans will try and score political points. President Obama needs to do what he can to get the American economy on track though, as until he does that, Europe will struggle to recover.

Good news that he is prepared to talk to Iran without all the invasion rhetoric. I wish him well, finally we seem to have a voice of reason.

On a personal level I am fine and I hope you are well.

Status: offline 		Well he's going to miss the London Alternative Market, the London Fetish Fair, the opening of my play and also the Putney munch.

He also won't get to meet me, Darcyandthedark, Mad Axeman, Prinsexx, and will probably end up in some boozer near Victoria downing pints with Gordon Brown and John Prescott.

Maybe he'd like to get in touch with Mercnbeth and we'll somehow find a way of fitting him in somewhere.

We Brits are nothing if not hospitable.

Before I did not blame them...Bush was a world disaster but Obama has, from the beginning, been open and upfront in his policies both world and economic. In the past other new US presidents have faced the European snobbishness.

Obama I believe is more than willing to work with Europe as an equal partner…that is a change from the Bush era… I hope they understand this is no time to see whose dick is longer.

Status: offline 		Obama is only visiting England as far as I am aware so his visit really doesn't touch all the Isles.
Sarkozy is pretty much irrelevant within his own country so his 'run away' attitude doesn't really hold much issue.  It's an empty threat and even if he did leave his seat empty, it would be a negative on him, not the summit or anyone else. There tends to be a grudge held at the moment and the French (generalisation) tend to be known for holding them for a long time.
 
Germany's reaction is far more important globally, however.  It's that alliance (German/French) that is bigger news.
 
The Queen?  I doubt she will be all that concerned or starstruck with Obama.
 
His visit isn't such a big thing here.  For those from the States, it's going to be cool because it's their president.  But our friendship with the states is pretty much secure at the moment so he is just another president over here.  We don't really get the whole excitement as much as your homeground, seeing as we have had  'minority' leader before.  Personally, I don't get the excitement, because I have learnt that it doesn't really matter if a countries leader is black, white, male or female.  It's the individual that matters and he hasn't had enough time yet to prove himself.  Will he this be the 'moment'?  I doubt it - the G20 summit is pretty much a show at this point.  It's more a chance for leaders to be in the same place at once.  I don't see it as being a meeting that will be particularly productive at this current time.  He will come over, shake a few hands, meet a few people he hasn't yet and go home.  It's a 'feelers' meeting, but nothing more substantial.
 
The funniest thing I saw today was the fact that whilst watching his arrival at downing street on BBC news this morning, they stated that there was so few people outside to watch it.  The street was virtually empty and the barracades bare.  The irony being that they were asking why?  It's obvious really - everyone has been told for weeks to avoid London today because of the demos.  Well duh.

Forgive me for going off topic Butch, but this assumes America knows the best way out of the mess. France and germany both blame the UK and America for not having enough of a regulated finance system. Add to that its a meeting of world leader and not just America and Europe.

I know that would make for a  good wet dream Shaker, but even on his very worst day, and after a lobotomy, Obama's ability to speak would be superior to Bush's...

Ah, but pound for pound, there are less of us on here LadyM... maybe a bit later this evening you may get a few more UK voices.  I really don't believe that there is that much interest in the G20 summit to be honest, apart from students and those 'revolutionaries' chanting in the streets.
