true story
My first computer crashed a week after I brought it home. I took the machine to a shop for repair.  As I left the guy said " Yeah, sure. I can fix it, no problem. Yawn... bye now"
When I returned he said  "welllllll ... HELLO "

if its legal, tech guys probly wont care or meantion it, they handle alot of comps and have probly seen far worse than yours or mine in porn collections, i wouldnt be suprised if they even have porn related polices or whatnot.

Take out the hard drive, replace it with one that is exactly similar, have it re-initialized, or have him re-initialize it himself, then put the original drive in as a secondary, and copy the crap back onto the main drive. It is possible to set up a cheap external USB drive as bootable primary, as well, and put the operating system on that, then the original drive does not even have to be taken out. There are plenty of people on bulletin boards that can walk him through the process, it is not complicated.

Unless there's something illegal on the computer, I wouldn't really care myself. Fortunately, I used to be a computer repair technician, so I rarely have to bring my computer anywhere, but I've fixed MANY computers where people were "embarrassed" by what they had on their computer. Being a kink friendly person, I rarely cared, and it would really take something out of left field to make me feel there's something that might interest me and my curiosity. But mostly when I repair a computer, I really don't care what's on the computer as I'm more interested in turning it around than I am in staring at what's in their personal information. Sure, when I first started out and was working for a university, yeah, it was kind of fun to see what the co-eds had on their computers, but after awhile that got REALLY old.

This is very much the worst advice to give. If the tech person, or their manager, decides that it seems there is kiddie porn on a system, for instance, and reports it, the owner can end up with huge, expensive, long lasting, legal problems, not to mention bills, even if it ain't so.

Hardware repairers that deal with businesses that deal with confidential material, like accountants, medical, lawyers... etc, won't bat an eye if you drop it off without the hard drive in it. The magic phrase to use is "business confidential", and they'll even pull it out for you on the counter, so it never leaves your sight, no questions asked.
Most drives are held by just two phillips screws for ease of access. (HP's use hex heads)

If it's a software problem, then obviously you do need drive access to fix it.
Subtle problems can be fixed by putting the error into Google, or a trusted geek.
If the drive's making grinding noises, buy a newer improved drive and use the restore cd's to reinstall your software from scratch. Then borrow a USB to IDE/SATA convertor cable, hook it up to your old drive, to copy your special stuff across to your new drive. or restore from your backups... you do make backups?[:D]

removing the HD aint going to help.  9 times outta 10 the problem it due to what is on the HD.  ie software conflict, virus memory allocation you get the idea.  All kinds of issuse that are directly related to what is on the HD and how it's configured

That makes sense - your friend probably passed the virus that crippled his computer on to you.

Would like to note the huge difference between kinky porn and kiddy porn. Kiddy porn folks deserve to go to jail, and stay there, and be anally buggered whilst there, unless that is their preference. Kinky porn tends to be less illegal (although I don't know what craziness goes on in the UK).

Kinky porn: possibly illegal, depending on where you're from. I still doubt the tech guy is gonna say anything if it's consenting adults doing it. All the tech guys I know are nearly as kinky as I am. Totally the best people to share porn links with.

Vendaval -> RE: kink aware services (3/27/2009 10:10:02 PM)

Is this a personal computer a work computer or both?  Keep that in mind.

Kinky isn't what you're after, you also want discretion and the knowledge that your stuff, won't emailed around their circle, and their circle's circles and...
So your technical problem breaks down to a people problem.

torkinkycouple -> RE: kink aware services (5/2/2009 7:34:39 AM)

why can't you use a regular one like everyone else? trust me, they've seen everything and they couldn't care less what you're into.
