As soon as the dreaded tax season is over I am sending postcards of joy to all my lovelies!!

When I was student teaching, I had this genius artist student whose writing was INCREDIBLE.  Total copperplate perfect.  But, he pressed really hard so his writing was really dark and heavy.  My supervisor always picked on him for it (he was a negative reinforcement guy) and I pointed out, Jim, next year when they write everything with a pen, it won't matter, right?  DANG!  That never occurred to him!

It makes me sad when skills go away, to be replaced by... not very much.  I used to maintain a massive correspondence (this was Before Teh Interwebz) and I loved it.  I have a collection of fountain pens, and all sorts of gloriously coloured inks.  Sure, I can mess with glamourous fonts to my heart's content, but there is nothing like taking notes on a little pad in a museum, or writing a thank you letter by hand (go GREEDY!!), or leaving a love note in someone's briefcase!

Well, wait a second, cursive is not the only kind of handwriting.  In fact, the use of cursive has become a very interesting generational indicator.  Most people born after 1970 write in block letters (or some variant) rather than cursive.

Well, thank you very much, now I feel like a freak!  Do you have ANY idea how many years of therapy this is going to take for me to work through this?  Do you?  I think that I should send you the bill!
