Do I have to buy a special radio, or can this be done via the Internet?

In the past, I found fire/police scanner channels, online.  But it has been a while.

I like to listen to Bob Chapman.  His audios get posted on youtube, but there is a time lag.  This is the info on the shortwave channel;

http://www.discountgoldandsilvertrading.net/Radio_Show.htm

If it is possible to listen to shortwave online, can someone please explain it to me in simple terms so I can attempt it?

Thanks!

Just a quick Google search with "shortwave radio online" brought up these sites:

http://www.ac6v.com/swl1.htm

http://www.dxzone.com/catalog/Internet_and_Radio/Online_Receivers/

These sites have lots of links to other sites that either tell you which frequencies to search for (using either a real or web-controlled shortwave radio) and/or provide clickable links to some of the programming.

Good hunting.

The only way you can listen on the internet is if he spools his show to the net.

Otherwise you need a radio.

You can go to http://www.qsl.net/oe3mzc/receivers.html for some online shortwave, but to do it "right" you need a receiver.  Sometimes the Internet isn't the solution ;)

What most people don't know is that for along time there are certain bands omitted from many SW radios for sale in the US. Look at the frequency coverage and you will see an almost universal omission of certain bands on the regular off the shelf units.

These are the bands that are used for transmission in the US, as SW is intended for long range communication. It also keeps US Citezens out of things like American Dissent Voices and Radio Free America. (there is actually an electronics forum dedicated to modifying them by the addition or cutting of certain jumpers, or software settings to remove these limitations in modern digitally controlled units, it is not a matter of they can't recieve, it is usually a matter of they have been prgrammed not to)

So count up the bands, see where one leaves off and another begins, make sure you can get it ALL. And yes it will cost you a bit more. Hunky, I got stations/programs that will put hair on your chest, curl it and take it off in one fell swoop, but because they are broadcast on these "forbidden bands" you will not hear them on the old $29 special.  Expect to pay about two hundred for a good SW radio. There are also specs on sensitivity and selectivity you need to weigh, as well as price when you make your purchase.

Hunky, you will love it, the FCC has no control whatsoever over what is broadcast and as such it can get interesting. Even real knuckle dragging bigots have shows, CALL IN shows ! Of all that's really out there, you might get half streaming on the net, but there is so much more.

I'm serious though, a bunch of these people talk about exactly the things you want to talk about. Thing is if you buy one, once you find your way around it, you will probably be listening to it so much you won't have much time to post on CM.

I was sure that it had something to do with listening to your radio while on your knees.....

You are the guy I will have hook me up when I can find the funds.   You know what would interest me and have the skills to cut thru the commotion.

When I updated the county disaster plan, there was alot of talk of short wave.    That and trunk lines.   I tried to get back into disaster planning, but I dont think they have any interest in me in this new county.

http://www.cocciardi.com/    "Pharm North"   SNS-POD, is a training exercise under PEMA/FEMA.   All these people worried about their guns, well- I am sure a clever virus could knock us all on our azz fast.
I dont like this excercise being planned.

Silver down a tad today. But I see unusual activity in silver trade.  An online trade group I belong to and trade with has an order in for 5000 1 oz rounds.  100 and 500 I had seen in the past. But never 5000.

Teck drives me crazy.   It seemed like a god send at first.  But these days, I have alot pf broken gadgets.  Just today I get an email saying paypal added my "new email"., which of course I never ordered, and so reported the phish.

Of course, they might be forbidden bands for a reason...those bands may be used for other radio services, radio services in other countries, and even radio astronomy; not a conspiracy to deprive you of programming.

If they're transmitting outside the allocated frequencies, they're committing a federal offense and you get 1 year and 10,000 bucks for each offense.

I would never break any law, of any type. Federal, state, local, county, township, municpality, homeowners, commercial code. Nor would I break any rule or regulation.   Implied or specific, now, or future, statutory or common law.

lol.

When a baby monitor stops picking up my cordless phone calls, then I will worry about it.   When the radio station stops fading when a plan flies over, I will start worrying.

The point is, I refuse to soley obey mainstream media.

One can purchase the kit to tune into cell phones online.   Some businesses use high pitched noise machines to annoy youth from loitering.  And TV uses sound booms, NLP, and other less then honest modes of influencing us.

PR is a huge business.

I dont trust fiat money, and that is a conspiracy.  Only gold and silver is money.  Not digital data entries.   Just my opinion.

And then, of course, you need an antenna.

Here are a lot of responses, it's terse but not intended to be insulting.

I'm not saying you would, I'm talking about folks who broadcast in forbidden bands...

When a baby monitor stops picking up my cordless phone calls, then I will worry about it.

If the owner changes frequencies and/or modulation technique (analog, digital), this will happen.  If you get a more recent phone you won't hear them at all.

When the radio station stops fading when a plan flies over, I will start worrying.

What you're describing are simple multipath effects.  The plane's reflecting a signal that's out of phase with the direct signal from the radio station.  It happens more when the plane's approaching or departing.

Take it with a grain of salt, like any other news source.  There are a lot of kooks out there.

You won't be able to receive the digital systems (the most popular today).

Not sure what any of that has to do with shortwave...

Yep...then you want to go mobile....and a generator...batteries...your own "shack" ...

Then you start building your own stuff and get hauled off for "environmental crimes"   I mean, who knew that Copper Chloride was so poisonous to fish.... (just kidding!)

I wish I was THAT prepared.   I dont think this town will be in too terrible of shape.  The main headquarters and processing plant of an East Coast grocer is here.   I do think this summer will be more crime then last. In the past 4 weeks, 4 incidents, 1 a week, 3 gang related.   And the blaring heat isnt here yet.   The gang thing has taken an odd twist.  The bloods and cryps are maybe a dozen in town....and the newspaper kept the gang name out of the paper. Well the mele week 3 was the pagan bike gang.   Go figure.

The left -right "debate" doesnt interest me.

This winter has thrown me for a loop.  Heat was more then I planned, and all of my utilities have gone up in cost.
This is even before large price increases for 2010.
Even garbage went up and is now $3.50 for a 30 gallon bag.  (they say they might start charging by weight)   You should see me STANDING in the garbage can to crush my garbage!!!!  I would drive the car over it if I wasnt afraid to pop the tire.

Once upon a time, we found a gallon of PCB in a friend's storage locker. We just about shit ourselves.  The other guy was using it to cool his dummy load and we really appreciated him leaving that after moving out!
