Hello all

How do you go about meeting people in this lifestyle without depending on personals on the internet? They work but I'd rather meet someone face to face first and get to know them in the real world. I don't know how to find people in my area (LA) without sites like this. Any suggestions?

groups in your area

man i wish i lived in LA...there are plenty of groups and oppourtunities to meet people in your area, go to a munch (a social meeting) and meet people...or the education groups or the local dungeon if you are ready, the city is your play ground...

In your area, finding a munch shouldn't be much of a challenge. Throw BDSM and LA into a search engine and you'll find more than a few groups.

You're in LA; just get out to the fetish clubs and get invited to the better parties. Avoid munches; they attract oinkers. In LA, you have more options.

Well, I don't do munches much (cool flow of words, isn't it?) so I do it the old fashioned way.
Supermarkets (sounds cliche, but ladies are very talkative).
Wine tastings
Where there are good bands playing and dancing is in the mix.
The horse community .. trailrides, shows, clinics, etc.
In the community.

You say hi, introduce yourself, talk (2 way street .. remember).
Pay attention to people, you get vibes, you notice things they say, you pay attention.

I personally haven't found munches very useful for meeting potential partners, but YMMV.

There are several vanilla activities with a high percentage of kinky (or at least openminded) people: Ren Faire/SCA, gothic/industrial, Sci Fi/Fantasy convention fandom, etc. I've met several of my previous partners that way.

i just moved from LA area OC actually. there is so much going on there you could go out almost every night of the week. thre is an ongoing submissive group in LA (forget the name). look up LAFUK, BDSMWEST, LA Social, PLAY, LairdeSade (they have twice monthly educational workshops called Insight) there are socials all the time. my fav socials were LordDan's 5th Wed Social and the OC social. they all have yahoo groups. Lady Badger is the keeper of events in the area and ever so helpful, pretty sure you could find her if you did a google search and i believe she is on this site as is LordDan and Kane who owns the Lair.
that ought to get you out and about if you are truly serious about meeting people face to face. enjoy.

If you are a masochist, then the local groups will work. Most of the LA groups I have been in contact with are heavily slanted towards S and m.

Get involved in your local kink "community".

Munches are good, and I've worked in clubs and helped out at a festival and a Pride March... all sorts of different people, some become friends, some become partners, some become something else all together.

If you are over 21 it is easy to find underground clubs to go to. i used to live in LA and i never found anything until i met a couple in the lifestyle. My best bet is to go on google and look for BDSM clubs you might get a few out there. That is how i found a few clubs where i live now. look up Lair De Sade
