Usually those are allowable in the random stupidity section, provided identifying info is omitted.

You and everybody else on the site.  Most of us just delete and block.

This site needs a lot of things, but I don't think that's one of them. If anyone emails you out of the blue other than to strike up a conversation or reply to a question/concern in your profile or journal, report the message to the admins, then block the sender and delete the message. Very, very easy rule to remember.

The best thing about negative experiences is that you learn what to avoid and therefore increase your ratio of positive to negative experiences. Hence negative experiences are GOOD!

What we need is some freaking common sense...

which brings forth the question
Why do they call it common when it's so rare?

The question is, did you fall for it?

If you didn't, you've lost nothing.  It does not create a 'need' to create a section to warn people about.

If you did, you need to pay attention to that big red banner that says:

"Don't send money."

I will have to go along with Mod 11 here, we are supposed to be adults here and as such we should be quite capable of avoiding scams.

I could recite my CC number right now, 5424 1804, oh but wait, I am an adult so I don't give the rest. It is that simple. Just don't give money away.

You need money for food, we can go get you some food, if you don't want to do that you probably want the money for drugs or some wine or whatever. If you had asked for that there is a chance I might say yes, but I detest lies.

It's simple matter to just keep your money in your pocket. If you can't do that, don't even leave the house.

Now in another case brought up, where a guy sliced up a girl with a knife, well I might take an interest if it were kin or chosen family, but other than that let the law handle that. If the law gets involved CM will recieve a court order to release records of corresponence and all that, with which I am sure they will comply, or there will be no CM. Other than that the mails exchanged on Cmail are more private than regular email in that they cannot be scanned by the DHS. However when a crime is commited things change in a hurry.

As someone stated, the first line says "Don't send money for any reason" or something like that. It is still your perogative to send money, but if things don't go well you simply can't go crying to them, they told you so.

If for example my dream come true mails me and needs a ticket to get here, I can use my card and get it, and have it waiting for them at the terminal. If they are a noshow I can expect to maybe get a refund or at least a credit in that case. Even if they do show nobody touches my cards, wallet, money or PC unless they are chosen familty. That will not happen the first day to say the least.

In short, nobody can effectively protect you but yourself.

T

This is exactly what I was thinking..

Haven't we all.  Just keep telling yourself "it's all about the ratio". *g*
