We have a water drainage problem, caused by part of the building settling lower another part of the building making it to where in heavy rain it will sometimes leak under the door. So, I've looked at the problem and determined the only way to fix this situation is to construct a drainage contraption. Essentially I'm going to build where the vast majority of the water drains off the building a sort of water storage bin, that is connected to the main drainage pipe that is now to high compared to the effected area, the pipe runs about a 100 feet under the building and exists into the ditch. Essentially I'm going to using cinder blocks and concrete to build the basin area up about 3-4 feet off the ground. The pipe, and here is where the question comes in will be either made of cement or contain a plastic pipe housed in cement. Well, when we purchased this place, they had left lots of concrete in bags, they left cinder blocks on a pallet, and a barrel full of concrete. It all still looks good, so I'm awash in free concrete. So, I'm wanting to build a pipe that is a 100% concrete. Because I don't want to spend any money. Here's my idea for doing such, if someone has experience and can tell me if this will work or not. I plan on building the underground part in segments and coating the small excess piece of pipe matching the diameter of the long drainage pipe with vaseline or some type of coating to prevent it from adhering with the concrete, simply using it to force the concrete to form around it, then the "theory" is I'd be able to remove that 2 foot length of pipe and make the next section. So, the end result will be a solid buried underground concrete pipe. So, the essential question I guess is will vaseline work to stop the concrete from gripping the pipe, or is there something better for this purpose. Thanks. The effected area must be drained using that one drain pipe as the building is a U shape, with the water problem in the middle of the U, the pipe is the only alternative outside of get heavy machinery involved.

I don't think Vaseline will work. you can get small diameter drain pipe for fairly cheap I think, give that a whirl.

Can't use small diameter, the pipe will be handling huge amount of water as in the U shape building, the 3 innner roofs all require it to drain with. The buried pipe is about 8 inches across. I may have to buy the big ass pipe, but prefer not to.

You just need to get a plummer. :-/ ... or buy some pipe. I have a feeling that not spending money now will lead to a coronary inducing plummer's bill at a later point in your life. [:D] You need experience, and the right equipment to pull off a job like this. You are talking about bagged concrete, and Vaseline.... hire someone. Your home made pipe is not going to stand up to the job a precast factory pipe is capable of.

Needtouseyou, you are making this MUCH more difficult than it needs to be. Buy the following Large STURDY Bucket 90 degree to three way 2 inch pvc pipe converter (Think "L" shape with three legs on the bottom) 3 sections of 10 ft of 2 inch pvc pipe 1 section of 3 inch pvc pipe 1 Metal Grate with the ability to cut it down water must flow freely 1 to 2 bags of Medium River rock all peiced should be 2 1/2 to 3 inches Weed Mat - High Porous. (Should be marked to allow Maximum amount of water through) Dig Hole at the Lowest Point of Slope. The hole must be deep enough to fit Bucket, Converter, and Pipe. Take the 10 ft sections and drill several 1/2 inch drill bit sized holes all over the PVC do this to all three and dig coresponding lengths of trenches so these pipes can be placed in them Assemble like this. Connect all 3 PVC Sections to the converter set in trenches and inside hole. Cut hole in bottom of Bucket just big enough to slightly fit the 3" piece of PVC in Cut down metal grate to fit in bottom of bucket over 2" pvc Connect Bucket Grate and PVC to Converter in hole. Back fill with half of your river rock to stabilize bucket and converter so nothingf falls apart. Cover 3 PVC pipe in trenched with Weed Mat to keep Dirt from cloging holes. Fill rest of bucket with remaining river rock to the TOP and spread around to level area. Cover all witrh remaining dirt and replace grass if there in any. And you have just created a Drainage System. NO CONCRETE as water will eventually break down mixed concrete and make it as if you had done nothing. If you spread out the area that the water settles the Earth will do the job it is supposed to. Steel (Former Landscaper)

The problem is the REASON, you want it for water, Unless it is Cured Or Preasure Treated it will just fall apart in a year of so. Plastic holds up MUCH longer with water. Trust me it will be much more efficent. By the way the Vasaline will not work as it will be absorbed into the concrete and will just fall apart when you try to remove the Pipe. Concrete is a Chemicle Reaction adding the Vasaline will be absorbed and inhibit drying and natural curing. Steel

Crap, I'm going to have to spend money, and now have to get a form to make lawn statues or something for this concrete. [:D]

Pipe is cheap...get clay tile pvc or concrete...They will last forever... Plastic socked slotted pipe is also dirt-cheap Why take a chance just because you have a little extra concrete? Butch

Have you ever saw those solar cookers? They use a big parabolic dish to focus the sun light onto the cooking area. (They have plans online), So, that would be cool, for in the summer, instead of using charcoal, or propane. A big solar cooker. Huge concrete solar cooker. Awesome!
