In your culture and in your personal view is attiude and event acceptable or not acceptable ? The trial has begun of Josef Fritzl, the Austrian man accused of holding his daughter captive for 24 years and fathering seven children with her. He faces charges of rape, incest, coercion, enslavement and deprivation of liberty.

Yes there are unacceptable attitudes and there are unacceptable actions. But that does not stop people from doing them even if it means jail, alienation or death. As for the news story you've quoted a bit from, that is totally unacceptable to me personally on many levels. I certainly hope he enjoys his time in prison where so many prisoners hate child molesters. ~Lashra

If the charges against him are proven true, he should rot in jail for the rest of his life. Other peoples culture and attitudes don't mean anything, his daughters freedom. liberty and right to decide are all that matters.

I hope this particular loser's behavior is unacceptable in all cultures, and I hope that they take him out of circulation... A few years back, I would want it done in a painful way, starting with castration, but since I now understand violence brings no sense of justice, I just want him to disappear, and not cost the country any more money in keeping him. The money should be used to treat and care for his offsprings. M

It is expected he will plead guilty and the trial to be over by the end of the week. Thankfully Austria has a speedy justice system. This case might have taken years in the US or UK.

What annoys me is that sometimes stupid news reporters can't leave their filthy noses out of some storys. I am currently in germany until the end of the week and they reported yesterday on a newsprogramm that his daughter and her kids are now living under a different identity at a secret place and that the government is doing a good job with keeping their new identity private as german news reporters seems to have failed to figure out where she is now and didn't receive informations they tried to get about her...that - of course - did not stop bloody english newspapers to manage to make pictures from her at her new place...as they did show a headline from a british newspaper who had figured them out...why do they lack of those basic manners to back off on that occassion after what had happened...for heaven's sake...

Who in the fuck would think this is acceptable? I sure don't, and I hope Josef Fritzl's fellow inmates don't find acceptable either. If there is any justice, Josef Fritzl will spend the rest of his life as a punk to some incredibly large, hairy backed man who doesn't see the point in bathing or wiping his ass anymore.

Unfortunately it isn't about manners or decency. If this were merely led by a self serving media it would die perhaps forever cursed as a spent and amoral force. Prurient tales of sex, cannibalism, drugs, violence, greed and being swamped by foreigners fuel base fears and desires to see the underbelly of human existence. Extreme behaviour has always existed, but there is now a culture that enjoys being shocked and the boundaries of what is acceptable are constantly being tested. It is more disturbing to me that a sizeable minority need greater intrusion and detail thereof to get their fix of disgust. This family must be in the most fragile of states, having taken quite a while to even try a new life. It is saddening that they may have already suffered damage at their exposure. One hopes that they will be helped to try again with proper safeguards. The chances that they will stop being a prize to the media is nil.

This is not acceptable in my personal view, and since he's being put on trial for this, it's obviously not acceptable from a cultural view as well, not in Austria or any other society that I'm aware of.

He has since pleaded guilty to the outstanding 2 charges he was denying, Murder By Neglect and Enslavement. Each carry 20 years max.
