The state is trying to shut down a New York City doctor's ambitious plan to treat uninsured patients for around $1,000 a year.
Dr. John Muney offers his patients everything from mammograms to mole removal at his AMG Medical Group clinics, which operate in all five boroughs.
"I'm trying to help uninsured people here," he said.
His patients agree to pay $79 a month for a year in return for unlimited office visits with a $10 co-pay.

It sure is nice to see government bureaucrats looking out for citizens' best interests.  And people wonder why I'm skeptical of government controlled healthcare.

I love doctors like that. :) He's seriously trying to help his community.  I get irritated when people rail on "all those stupid doctors who won't diagnose me with XXXXX 'cause I looked on WebMD and now I'm positive I have the fibromyalgias."

The fact remains that it's not the Docs screwing people over for the most part- it's the insurance companies and the govt poking their nose in.

Interesting....I never knew that MD charged New Yorkers for their flats.

It's a sad thing to see happen but not surprising. Let me give a little context to this decision.

On the same day I heard two news stories. The first was that the federal government had, six months earlier, taken over one of Nevada's legal brothels for non payment of taxes. According to IRS procedures, they had tried to run the place in hopes of selling it to recoup the lost taxes. Now, it was going bankrupt and closing.

This was followed by the report that NY's Off Track Betting was projecting a $50,000,000 deficit for the year.

Folks, we are dealing with the government here: the only people who could lose money on a whorehouse and a bookie joint.

Is it any wonder they make decisions like this?

The paper listed the requests of various local municipalities as relates to the stimulus package.  Most wanted to  repair  the water and sewage facilities and some really bad bridges.  However, Grand Rapids wanted $30 million (by far the largest requested) to build an amphitheater on the river.  However, how we would get there with all the impassible roads is an issue?  Grand Rapids' potholes swallow cars and hizzhonor wants an amphitheater!  All politicians are wrongheaded and dishonest.  If you investigate you will find some ownership conflict between the politicians and the contractor building the amphitheater per usual.

As far as the brothel, the politicians probably ate the profits.

Yea, me too, just like I am skeptical of govt. control of the military, law enforcement and of course our family favorite...banking. Oh look, turns out the govt. doesn't control banking as such it (taxpayers) just gladly take on the risks where the bankers get the profit.

In almost every single political post you show your lack of understanding and the bias you create from it.

Apparently NY has the profit police all over this guy hey ? That's what our great 'free market' [sic] gives us.

What exactly do I not understand.....according to you?  Please enlighten me, because I've noticed you never seem to get anything wrong.....according to you.  BTW, what was the point of your little stab at me here, or do you actually have a point?

DarkSteven -> RE: New York forcing MD to stop charging flat fee (3/15/2009 8:57:46 AM)

The irony.... Insurance companies frequently refuse to cover certain drugs, so they force doctors to prescribe other ones.  This is very arguably insurance companies practicing medicine and deciding which drugs should be administered.  Without a license, no less.

So when a doctor decides that he will turn the tables and act as an insurance company (for which no license is required AFAIK), he gets ordered to stop.

I wish the AMA would intervene, but they're probably more afraid of a doctor treating poor people than the HMOs are.
