Women don’t (usually) need such contrived and excessive methods to learn to work together.

Ohhh trust me, as a female who has failed to be initiated or welcomed into many many womens groups, they have just as much, if not more vicious methods of hazing and intiation as males do.  Like most female methods though, they tend to be far more passive, mentally manipulative and subtle.

They say the devils best trick was convincing people he didn't exist.  I think females best trick is convincing the world they are the "sweeter sex."

It is not always subtle with some women either, that's for sure! [:'(] Some *sorority* hazing has led to pledges being killed. Don't get me wrong -- I know that fraternity hazing has led to people being killed as well. Disgusting.

< laughs>  Maybe the female sex has convinced men of that, but we know what we are really capable of!
ETA:  But I wonder if there is a difference?  The situations you mention seem to be based on the ‘ladies’ excluding some one.  What has been suggested in this thread is that hazing is more intended to include someone.

Howdy, recently i watched a program on Hazing done by sports, clubs, soriorty, and fraternities. and it made me think is this a form of public or non public sadism? Is it similiar to sadism? do you disapprove or approve of it and why? I'm conflicted on it myself  on one hand i disapprove on the other hand i see that i myself would at times do the same things.

Hazing is done by a group which almost certainly contains several sadists but standing alone hazing is not sadism. However hazing is a form of public humiliation enjoyed by the masochists and sadists but tolerated by others. Unfortunately hazing appears to be done in a whole variety of institutions from trade apprentices to the academic world and is looked at as a form of initiation. Sadly there seem there is no way to monitor it and keep it to non offensive, non intrusive and non injurious. Too many times people put up with is so as not to appear different or because of both peer and parental pressure because some father went to that school, fraternity etc and the son much follow family tradition or because members of that group have better career opportunities.. Personally I am in principle against much of the hazing which I see as different to initiation rites where the applicant is tested under psychologically difficult situations.
