Ok...just a personal experience here:

For years my sleep was severely affected by sleep apnea. I remember waking up twenty times a night and that's just what I remember. I spent my days in a fog, falling asleep in movies, at work and even a few times behind the wheel of my car.

Back in October, I went to a sleep study. They found out that I was getting maybe 5 minutes of real sleep per hour tops. They immediatly perscribed me a bipap machine (the bipap is very much like a CPAP. The CPAP blows air out while a BIPAP blows out air when you exhale and draws it back after you inhale).

Wel, after 5 months, I'm a new person. I no longer fall asleep save when I go to bed. My focus is far better. My blood pressure and pulse rate have decreased to a healthy level. I'm even losing weight without overly dieting. In short, it has made a tremendous difference in my life.

Yes, it takes a while to get used to the mask, but the benefits are more than worth the effort.

I have had a cpap machine for over 5 years. I knew something was wrong when i was driving in day time and i was nodding off. It does not have a dehumidifier. My Dr. won't write me a script for one. I wake up with dry mouth etc.
Anybody can require a c pap machine (thin, fat, young, old). Best to have one if you need it than your blood pressure spiking up, your having a heart attack or stroke.
it took me awhile to get used to it. I have had the pillows where these things go up your nose but if you have a cold it absolutely kills you to wear them. I have a mask now.
My problem is that i wake up a lot during the night. I just don't sleep well c pap or no c pap.
I was in Vegas and since you can't bring water on the plane with you you have to buy the distilled water. I went to every place i could think of no water. I went 4 days without my machine.
When u are traveling you have to let them know u have a c pap. They not only scan it they also bring it to the side and wipe it out with something to make sure there isn't something in there that is NOT supposed to be in there.
Never, EVER when you are flying check your c pap! Always carry it on the plane and it doesn't count as baggage as it is a medical device. As always check with the Airline you are flying with.

I have no experience with CPAP machines, Popeye.
It sounds interesting, please let us know how it works out for you!

When I'm on here posting at 3AM it's because I'm not wearing the mask.  It does make a big difference, as others have posted.  Wearing it gives you and your partner a good nights sleep.
