It might be an offence
quote:

When Gary Sanders was pulled over by police he was sure he had done nothing wrong. The company director was obeying the speed limit and not driving dangerously.
But to his astonishment he was told he had been stopped for excessive laughing.Mr Sanders had been talking on a  hands-free kit and was chuckling at what his friend had said. But the officer who ordered him to stop at the exit to the Mersey Tunnel told him: ‘Laughing while driving a car can be an offence.’
If that had been the end of the matter then Mr Sanders, 47, would probably have laughed the whole thing off.But he subjected him to a 35-minute grilling, with questions about everything from his ethnic group to details of distinguishing scars on his body. And despite not being charged with an offence, he still had to waste a further 90 minutes of his time producing his driving licence and other documents at a police station.

Looks like you can't even have a laugh in the UK anymore.

Ohhhh I would love for that to happen in th states. I mean it really could happen but if it did it would have been on the 5 o'clock news and the officer would be explaining how this was NOT profiling.

I would have to stop listening to Bob and Tom!

Does this mean when I pass someone doing something that makes me laugh, liking singing and jamming out, or picking their nose, I now have to pull over to do my laughing?

What if I pass multiple funny people and have to pull over multiple times? Should I start leaving for work early???

I think we need to start driving with blinders on, and removing radios from our cars.

Let us ask ourselves how the police would recognise he was laughing if it didn't affect his driving and if he didn't 'throw his head back' as claimed. The story is based on the account of a disgruntled motorist. Him saying he wasn't driving dangerously has as much credibility as the answer people give when asked what speed they were doing whilst stopped for speeding.

Also if you think you are so free and also free from the nanny state why are some of you only allowed to cross the road where there are stripy road markings? God forbid a pedestrian ruin your day of motoring joy by getting flattened. The onus should be on the person with the license to drive safely not give the usual “I’m a driving expert fuck off” answer. If we were all the experts we think then they’d be no accidents as those accidents happen to other people don’t they?

Does this mean that singing while driving is also against the law?

I would rather not be entertained while driving. One day in my car at Broadview and Valley I was in a conversation with my carload of people back from a small remodeling job on one of Ma's houses. That light gives an arrow for the left turn one way along with a green for going straight, but I was going the other way.

I generally drive with the seat back, nice and comfy and sometimes I have to lean forward to see the light, not that night, I saw the other cars going and just went. If ONE person had been turning left there would've been an accident, and it would've been my fault.

It has been said that accidents are caused, they don't just happen. I took that true incident as evidence of that statement being true. I don't usually even turn the radio on now.

My current vehicle doesn't have a radio in it.  I bought it in 2002, and I had planned on installing one.  It's a base model Nissan pickup.  No radio, carpet, etc.  I procrastinated on the radio installation project forever.  I got to the point that I rarely miss having a radio.  For just tooling around town, I just don't miss it.  I missed it when I took long road trips to Wisconsin in 2006, West Virginia in 2006, and Florida in 2008.  On my Florida trip, I brought along a portable radio.  Honestly, I think I drive better without it.  I pay a lot more attention to the road, and I even find the radio irritating when I drive someone else's car.

I'm ok with not having the radio on... but I would prefer people stop stealing them out of my car.

My neighbour created this fascia that fitted over his radio making it look like an air vent. Not sure criminal falls for that kind of ploy now though. They like stealing satnavs by checking if your cigarette lighter is unplugged (indicating you remembered to unplug the satnav and hide it away but forgot to replace the lighter) also they check for that windscreen circular suction mark don’t they.
