ORIGINAL: SteelofUtah I see these threads start up that attack one side or the other of a political view. I happen to be one of those people who see things on all sides of the coin and have varying degrees of agreement depending on the topic Conservative on something Independent on others and Liberal on some. My Question is if you honestly believe there is a solution to the problems of America with the people divided as they are? Con against the Libs, Dems against the Radicals and everyone at everyones throats do you honestly believe that there will be any one solution that would bring this country back together? I have heard those who believe we need a second civil war and a cleansing of America, what are your views on this? What do you think this once great country of America needs to come back together and stand unified again? Steel I don't think there will be another civil war. I'm not sure if there's any real deep difference of philosophy between liberals and conservatives to warrant going to war over. They always seem to accuse each other of being fascists or communists, but for Pete's sake, real fascists and communists are a LOT different. What I see happening in America right now is a sense of torpor and malaise. We've had things so good for so long that we don't know what to do with ourselves during difficult times. I don't think that Americans really want to be against other Americans anyway. I think that a lot of people are mainly tired and disillusioned at all the BS coming from the government and politicians in general. People don't like to be lied to. They get angry about it, and unfortunately, some are inclined to take it out on the first person who disagrees with them. But that doesn't really solve any problems. The only real solution is for the majority of voters to wise up and start educating themselves. Regardless of their political inclinations, whether conservative or liberal (and may they always remain in balance), they should at least take the time to consider that maybe, just maybe, the politician they're listening to and agreeing with could be feeding them a load of horse dung. I know many conservatives and liberals who are decent, hard-working, honorable people who sincerely believe that they're right and exude the positive qualities of their political/philosophical viewpoint. They are both sincere and intelligent, but neither of them are inclined to put up with any BS. On the other hand, there are quite a few conservatives and liberals who exude the negative qualities of their political viewpoint, and they're often full of BS. So, my solution is, if you can separate the honest ones from the crap, the corruption, the waste, and all the other nonsense that goes on, we might actually have something to work with. I can't believe the number of times where public monies to the tunes of hundreds of thousands or millions just turns up missing and nobody knows where it went. I think that Department of Commerce scandal involved hundreds of millions of dollars - just gone. Somebody must have had a good time on all that cash. That would be a good place to start cleaning things up. Just for that, we don't have to change anything philosophically or systemically. I know of no political philosophy which says that corruption, dishonesty, and unethical behavior are good things. If you ask the average liberal or conservative (or even radical), I guarantee that they would tell you that they're against governmental corruption. So, if that's something they can agree upon, then that may be a basis for unity against the "common enemy," so to speak. But that may be just a pipe dream on my part.
