Charter Communications :8 billion dollars in debt, goes poof thanks to Chapter 11.

http://money.cnn.com/2009/02/12/news/companies/charter_communications/index.htm?iref=werecommend

I do understand that companies get into trouble but it is really hard for me to understand an amount like... 8 billion.

Hi Camille,

We are going to see more and more of this in the months ahead.  Charter has a monopoly on Cable in this area and is noted for high prices and lousy service.  This result is not a surprise.  Thanks for posting the article.

Yeah, that's about the size of it, Lucy.  Wonder how much their executives took home after taxes in the past few years?

Vendaval I had horrendous and costly issues with Charter until I was liberated from their clutches by escaping to Texas and into the arms of Time Warner.

On my admittedly petty side I am glad, I hate Charter and their legion of minions. On my realistic side I understand that this is just another domino in the financial tipping and I feel a bit ill about it.

I feel pretty much the same.  Charter is not a company I will support if given any alternatives but they employ many people who are going to have a real struggle if they fail entirely.

How is life in Texas for you?

Texas is weird. That is my official opinion, but my experience is limited to Austin and 'Keep Austin Weird' is the city motto.

I'm loving my Time Warner Cable, that's for sure.

Glad you are happy there.  Austin seems to be much different from the rest of the state.  Quite a few people from Southern Cal have relocated there and like it.

That's a lot of money, for sure and, unfortunately, more to come.   Governments also get into trouble...and none of us have any understanding of $1,000,000,000,000, certainly I don't, ...and that's only for starters!!

I, unfortunately, am a Charter customer, and the way the ripoff and screw their customers, I find it hard to believe they have any debt. I am willing to bet it is only creative cooking of the books, which will allow the top dogs to get outrageous bonuses.

Vendaval is quite right that their rates are very high, and customer has to get a lot better just to qualify as lousy. When you need to add, move or change service, they are right on top of things and you get to talk to a real person. When you have any kind of service problems, you get to talk to an automated voice recongnition system.

I'd be a lot happier seeing them go into chapter 7!!

That is the motto of the city close to me too (Louisville Ky), but they never seem to like any of my ideas.
